It does seem like a bad decision and made for PR points not through genuine sentiment or respect from the football authorities.

Surely the solution would have been to play the national anthem, do a silence or applause (the latter is a much better used method of respect in recent years drowning out twats) and even armbands. That would show a lot more ‘respect’.

On a Leicester level though, it’s the best result we’d get this weekend!

In fact it's a decision aiming again to divide rather than unite and it's against the people's will of this country. It also hurts largely the product of PL worldwide and our reputation as citizens and fans of football here. All PL games are televised internationally, the comments of foreign journos, fans and ex players are spot on. FA and PL are messing again with us, if it's true that they're postponing the games only because they're afraid of "incidents" they need to come out and say this to our face rather than providing a lame excuse about respect. They're so entitled and elitist that they think they're showing respect whilst everything else in the country continues as normal.

PGA championship going ahead tomorrow.

Now a 54 hole tournament (which if you follow golf, is slightly ironic)

I just wish some appreciate their are more important things in the world than footballers kicking a ball about F F S..  Any sensibility has gone out the window. Starting to despise the game and all it stands for.

What do the powers that be think we should all be doing Saturday afternoon - sitting round with family/friends reminiscing how we saw her on a postage stamp once ?

You’ve only ever seen one postage stamp?

Cancelling all football is complete overkill.

But football needed to do the "right thing" PR wise so hear we are. Hope those who booked train and travel in advance are compensated.

Fairly sure it was a Saturday as I was working.

The funeral that is, the death was in the early hours of Sunday

In 1997 Diana's funeral was held on Saturday September 6th as I remember going to Althorp House with a mate to pay my respects that evening, back in my Northants days. Crowds flocked to the house on Sunday 7th, for which I was also there for.

Apparently they didn't...the PL board made the decision and the club's didn't reject it once told it was going to happen

Isn't Whelan on the Board

Welcome aboard. I'm in my mid 40s and for the first time I find myself despising everything regarding this sport. It's just sad.

It is a wholly appropriate and respectful decision and people are perfectly capable of surviving a weekend without football. It’s too soon for celebrations of her life; that will come later.

Some on here are really crass and cynical. Show some respect please.

Completely correct Mr Weller II and as such I’m taking a week of compassionate from work, fully paid!!

I’ve been further delayed in Vienna now so won’t get home in time to watch any games on tv tomorrow. As such and as it now suits my situation perfectly, I’m very glad all games game been cancelled. Show respect!!

I believe an old far less cynical, toxic

England, would respect any 1-3 day mourning, for our "Special gran..MA'AM

nothing grand or over the top..1-3 days to say good bye..Without Music or concerts from trashy-celebs...

Just quiet Wakes among her public...

Crowd around Windsor,Balmoral, the Palace & N.I.Gathering.Together to say that simple farewell....

Unfortunately we are and have become,  Plastics of the people we have created...

Why is it about your emotions ?

it’s about showing respect

the football authorities have decided that baying mobs of football fans over the weekend don’t reflect that respectful image

Other sporting bodies have decided that their fanbase don’t risk that image

who is right ?  Who is wrong ?

What????

Why would there be baying mobs?

lol because its more dramatic to say that rather than they've just done what they think will get the most favourable reaction

People would be less crass and cynical (personally I don't think people are being either) if they were respected enough to make their own choices in the first place. That would be the wholly appropriate and respectful thing to do.

Absolute sack of royalist crap.

When can we smile again, Mr Weller? After the funeral? How long after the funeral? Please can I smile and enjoy my life?

I've been to work today, I managed to emotionally manage that, would you be able to tell me why I can't emotionally manage a football game?

Horseshit from the royal bunch as usual. Jesus Christ.

Some people need to have a beer and calm down 🤣

The FA and Premier League decision was made to appease people who don't actually exist. Has anyone actually met these supposed wailing fundamentalist royalists like you might see with the enforced mourning sessions in North Korea or the Gulf? These people are a figment of PR peoples imagination. With all sorts of issues more effort now goes into ensuring that a company is represented correctly than goes into actually delivering the product that people want.
