Might be naive but why Liverpool? Are they known as being against the monarchy? What’s gone on that makes Liverpool likely to cause a scene or whatever? Genuinely curious.

I think it's probably more to do with government than monarchy (however being seen as not stepping in is linked back to monarchy obvs...)

'Scouse not English' is a flag often waved at Liverpool games. The city has long thought of itself as seperate to the rest of the country.

Not sure there's much more in it than that, other than the fact Liverpool has strong Irish links and a big irish fanbase too.

Working class, leftists, Irish inheritance etc. You can find a lot labels to make excuses for a poor decision.

Largely yes. I have a fairly superficial understanding of why but it’s down to their feeling of historic disenfranchisement for the city perceived to be from the elite/monarchy/government in England. It’s a complex issue that I can’t explain completely but I’m sure there’s plenty who could.

Not sure most Scouse could either tbf. Just like their ‘fook the Tories’ bandwagoning

They have pretty good reason for this tbh. I personally don’t share the same weird pseudo-hatred I’m expected to have for scousers/Liverpool. But like I said, I don’t fully understand it.

Or the Premier League because it was their decision? Or was it clubs collectively?

Don't a majority of member clubs have to vote it through? Either way, staff need to be compensated for lost earnings as fans do for travel costs etc.

The whole performative schtick that comes with it is a recent trend though.

So the queen dies and we get a decisive answer. The big 6 threaten to fvck off and nothings done.

What do you mean nothings done? Haven't you seen the new FFP rules and the recent VAR decisions?

Yeah they probably over egg it a touch, like football fans do with most things. I agree with their sentiment whole heartedly mind.

They think their Irish (like Celtic fans) and think we’re still in the 1980s

I think you will find that the scousers hatred of Thatcher and Joseph has been taken to a new level under Johnson.

The annoying thing is that the people saying "it's the right thing to do" will still be clogging up the aisles at morrisons tomorrow and going to the garden centres. Then the younger lot that paint their faces and wave flags will be going to the pub and getting leathered all day.

Hahah funny but I doubt it. They’ll be sitting at home with a 2l bottle of coke and the tv remote, as per most weekends

The fact England v South Africa at the Oval is also on tomorrow (which Im buzzing for as I’ve got tickets) makes the decision to postpone all football matches even weirder,

How is cancelling sporting events a show of respect?!

Bandwagoning? A government runs the country to the ground and tries to erode away the checks and balances that hold up fragile democracy and makes people into literal second class citizens and saying “**** them” is “bandwagoning”.

That’s depressing. The much more depressing question is why hasn’t every other ****ing person in the country jumped on this bandwagon?

They’ve bandwagonned things for years. My point isn’t on the Tory upset. I agree they ****ed it right up. It’s the mindless lemming approach that the city generally takes to anything that will allow them to distance themselves from the rest of the country that I was commenting on. It’s bizarre.

Government doesn't want to upset the Daily Mail set. It's a crying shame, and I'll bet old Liz wouldnt have wanted people to have a shit Saturday.

It's not the government, it's the football authorities. Other sports have decided to go ahead and allow people to come together and express their respect for the queen. Football has got it badly wrong again.

I’ve been invited to play in a Charity 6 A Side Football Tournament, so I’ll now be doing that tomorrow.
