They just aren't compatible, Faes is in a similar mold to Soyuncu, rash and aggressive and likes to win the ball.

 

Soyuncu had Evans whilst not quick he had good positioning and read the game well, Vestergaard has no pace and has pretty poor positional play and reading the game.

 

CB need to compliment each other, these two don't. 

 

Problem is we have a poor mix at CB.

A CB partnership of Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard means guaranteed relegation. The fact that the club has not signed a new CB this window is a tacit admission that the owners have no interest in trying to stay up. I just wish they’d be honest about it and admit this and save us all a lot of bother.

Not sure why Wout has become an easy scapegoat for some. He's clearly one of our very few assets.

It dosnt help that Soumare is a terrible DM. Offers very little in front of the centre backs, And JV at this level is so bad, id honestly play Okoli and or Coady over him every time.

I feel like you could literally go through the entire squad as a reason why Wout is shit but the truth is, he is shit and he is very shit. Add in the fact he thinks he is peak Maldini and he really isn’t very likable.

We have four centre-halves, none of which are good enough for the PL. If you have a gaping hole in the middle of your back four, you're going to get relegated. It doesn't matter what combination we play there, the result will be the same.

Wout Faes needs everything we don't have to help him be successful. A solid partner, reliable full back, good centre midfield etc...

 

He has attributes that would be handy but it needs to the right set up. Otherwise woefully exposed.

We're seriously short of a good old fashioned leader in that position. Think back to the likes of Walsh, Taggart, and of course Morgan. No nonsense defenders who put their bodies on the line for the team.

The club's trajectory since he joined is shocking. We used to win competitions before he arrived. Since then we've shipped goals and played like school children. It's embarrassing but the fact he thinks he's too good for us, when in fact he's one of the worst CBs we've seen for over a decade, is laughable.

He joined when we were bottom of the league after our worst PL start and we couldn't ship out any deadwood or sign anyone with any credentials. Our trajectory isn't his fault.

Come on. His participation as an lcfc player is hauntingly bad. Just because we had a few shit weeks of Ward/no Fofana before he came doesn't mean the bar was suddenly set that low. He's cemented that standard with his clueless defending. I'll accept he looked decent in the championship but he clearly isn't PL level.

Wish people would stop comparing him to Soyuncu. Soyuncu (in his peak) wasn't that rash because he actually made good decisions. Of course his style of play meant that he would occasionally get caught out but he has the pace and physicality to get back, or as you say, Evans to then bail him out.

 

Faes is absolutely crap and no player could compliment him. Doesn't do anything remotely close to what Soyuncu did.

Scouted? He's with the same agents as Tielemans and that seems to be the Rudkin way. They don't have many players but just so happens there are two OH Leuven players on there too https://www.claesagency.com/en/athletes

He was a bargain basement cost (14m euros) and plays like it. I never doubt his effort and he is very rarely injured. He just isn't very good, but im not really surprised based on how much he cost. Cant keep comparing him to other CB's who cost a lot more. Even Souttar cost about £4-5 million more!

 

But Wout isn't our problem. Our issue is that we only have bargain basement CB's that no one else wants and we've not been able to recruit to improve. 3 of our CB's are Coady/Faes and Vesty. Its comical. I like the look of Okoli but i think its going to take him a little longer to get fully up to speed.
