I hope he doesn't go. I'd rather he have the 6 weeks off than being de-coached by football terrorist Gareth Southgate.

Not sure though having seen those articles .

One talks about backing players who broke COVID rules (maybe Southgate didn’t think it was a serious issue?)

whereas allegedly Maddison was “warned” although given its the Mail could be inaccurate!!

Sounds like Southgate was a little peeved at the time and might still be ?

football is a game of personalities. There is every chance he simply doesn’t like maddison for whatever reason.

But one thing worth remembering, Grealish, whilst operating as #10 also couldn’t get in the side. It was only when he fully embraced being a winger that he eventually  gave in and gave him a chance.

Gareth has a system he wants to play? if he doesn’t see maddison as a fit then he’s not going to bring him just to please the wider view. I don’t like it but it’s better than him going to a tournament with no chance of minutes.  Mads may be playing out wide for us now but even we don’t see it as a good fit for him.

Better for us if he’s at home l

If Maddison was at a so-called "top" club he'd be in the squad. It's as simple as that.

There are plenty of criticisms you could level at Southgate but I don't think top club bias is really one of them. There are plenty of players who play for teams outside that bracket (or broke into the setup while doing so) that are regular fixtures in his squads and equally he is happy to not play, or leave out altogether, players like Smalling when he was at Man Utd and Alexander-Arnold.

Well we'll see when he moves on.

Well I think we probably did see when Maguire became a regular when playing for us, Phillips for Leeds, Rice for West Ham, Coady for Wolves, Mings for Villa etc. There is clearly something about Maddison other than his football ability that Southgate doesn't like but I don't think it's the fact he doesn't play for a traditionally top club.

I never actually read the details of the casino saga so also did a google

90mins.com, did not give any details of his wild behaviour..... but I suppose it was like calling in sick for the night shift and then sitting in the beer garden of the next door pub with half a shandy.

These two extracts...have not aged well, as they say

Should the 22-year-old maintain his level of performances at club level, Southgate will likely have little choice but to include him in his next group.

Leicester, meanwhile, currently find themselves fourth in the Premier League. Under Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes have established themselves as one of England's most exciting sides, and Maddison has certainly been key to that.

Edit. having read more, more like being sent home sick for the week on the Monday and sitting in the beer garden with half a shandy on the Wednesday

I just don’t think that’s the reason really if it is Southgate is the biggest Cockwomble in football, the trouble is with Southgate he relies on the same old out of form top 6 players rather than players that are consistently inform and out performing those favourites of Southgate he just can’t ignore the quality of the stats these players out of the Top 6 are week in week out out performing the ones that should be no where near the England Squad !

Ivan Toney James Maddison Callum Wilson  to name a few are much better options than the usual Southgate failures who constantly fail to bring any tournament winning performances the same failures he picks every time ignoring the same quality players every time he picks an international squad !

The reason Jamie Vardy gave up International football he’d rather be with his family & concentrate on his club football rather than constantly being sat on the bench being ignored over out of form players who were misfiring both in league and international football, Southgate was naive in mismanaging Vardy who taken to Russia World Cup was kept on the bench rather than playing instead of a then misfiring Kane one of the reasons the FA should have changed Southgate long before we got to the World Cup, I can see us just make it out of our group but bound to be knocked out early & if we are he needs to be relieved of his management duties !

But even tho he’s not my favourite for England manager and haven’t got much faith in his managerial ability to win us a major trophy, reports are saying Tuchel wants the England job but I’d rather have a decent quality British manager !

The buzz when Vardy was in the squad going into a tournament is the same how I'd feel about Maddison now. The last Euros was a good p*** up but it just didn't feel the same without a vested interest. He not only deserves to be going to the world cup but should be there as our star man.

The cynical part of me knows if Southgate was serious, he'd have used him by now. May end up selecting him to earn a few brownie points with the media but totally ignore him Vardy-esque.

When Southgate is in the stands he plays like shit. That is my analysis.

He was at the recent game v Palace which was 0-0 of course and Maddison got booked for diving..

I don’t know how he played generally though .

Maddison is in the provisional 55 man squad, Harvey Barnes isn't though I don't think. Not sure on Jamea Justin either.

26 man squad is named next week so what's the chances of Maddison having an absolute howler on Saturday vs Everton and not selected and then in the final game before the World Cup he scores a hattrick vs West Ham and everyone is in uproar.

This 55 man squad is hands down the most pointless thing I think I have ever seen in my life lol

It’s for Visa reasons I think. They have to send all their names to the Qatari authorities to give time to process all their Visas, hence why you can’t select anyone outside that 55 man squat.

They can knock up about 8 stadiums  in 4/5 years but can't process 1000 odd visas in a week or so :D

Red tape even gets the better of the Qataris

He will get in a when a big club rings the FA they need to tap him up, then when in the squad he will be told to keep his place he needs to move to said club, thats how England callups work ladies and gentleman.
