I just don’t think that’s the reason really if it is Southgate is the biggest Cockwomble in football, the trouble is with Southgate he relies on the same old out of form top 6 players rather than players that are consistently inform and out performing those favourites of Southgate he just can’t ignore the quality of the stats these players out of the Top 6 are week in week out out performing the ones that should be no where near the England Squad !

Ivan Toney James Maddison Callum Wilson  to name a few are much better options than the usual Southgate failures who constantly fail to bring any tournament winning performances the same failures he picks every time ignoring the same quality players every time he picks an international squad !

The reason Jamie Vardy gave up International football he’d rather be with his family & concentrate on his club football rather than constantly being sat on the bench being ignored over out of form players who were misfiring both in league and international football, Southgate was naive in mismanaging Vardy who taken to Russia World Cup was kept on the bench rather than playing instead of a then misfiring Kane one of the reasons the FA should have changed Southgate long before we got to the World Cup, I can see us just make it out of our group but bound to be knocked out early & if we are he needs to be relieved of his management duties !

But even tho he’s not my favourite for England manager and haven’t got much faith in his managerial ability to win us a major trophy, reports are saying Tuchel wants the England job but I’d rather have a decent quality British manager !

I appreciate what you're saying but Kane finished top goalscorer in the 2018 World Cup so it wasn't unjustified

I think the form vardy was in that year he’d have scored more than Kane, I just feel Southgate doesn’t utilise the English talent to it’s capability he just keeps on playing the same old dross even tho he has better players to choose from !

I’m glad he’ll be excluded from the 3 Lions shitshow of talent-wasting and tapping-up.  Not being selected should keep James highly motivated, while being selected and never playing (while the fake-news “casino incident” plays on repeat in the media) would be demotivating.

And meanwhile, you all will be stuck with The Waistcoat for the foreseeable.  Because you’ll walk that group *, and Qatar will buy off the refs to finish second and face England in the knockouts, giving you guys a typical Southgate Lay-Down into the quarters without playing anybody.  What a manager

* USA were utterly useless in our recent tune-up matches

If Maddison was at a so-called "top" club he'd be in the squad. It's as simple as that.

I'd normally entertain that but what about Gueye at Palace? They're hardly a big club. Tarkowski and Pope were getting picked whilst at Burnley. Justin was called up two squads ago. Ward-Prowse is a regular bench warmer

I heard Hoddle on Talkshite the other day saying that Maddison needs to get himself to a top 6 club and nearly smashed my phone off the desk. Why? Are the goals and assists he's racking up here invalid unless they're achieved elsewhere? He was playing and scoring in European football last season. The media will feed the bullshit about anyone beating anyone in the most competitive league in the world but that seems to count for nothing if all you need to do to be picked is be at a "top" club.

The "incident" in the casino was nearly 3 years ago & was minor compared to some of the shenanigans the rst of that squad have got up to. Sterling attacked his then girlfirend, Foden, Grealish, Henderson and Walker have all had their own issues, yet he never dropped any of them. I can't quite get my head around it but when Madders did his post-match interview with Sky after Forest you could tell he was desperate to be involved. He's got a kid & settled home life, is top of as many stats charts as you can be, there's nothing more he can do, at this stage you can only say it's a personal vendetta from a manager out of his depth.

There will always be the odd exception, I accept that, but I still stand by what I said.

There's a serious chance another 5-6 players will be injured before the WC and Southgate will call Maddison...

.. to tell him that he's chosen Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker for the position.

True, but 3 of his 6 goals were penalties, another deflected off him, and the other 2 were from close range in the first game v Tunisia.

There are plenty of criticisms you could level at Southgate but I don't think top club bias is really one of them. There are plenty of players who play for teams outside that bracket (or broke into the setup while doing so) that are regular fixtures in his squads and equally he is happy to not play, or leave out altogether, players like Smalling when he was at Man Utd and Alexander-Arnold.

Gareth definitely does favour players at big 6 clubs. Particularly in attacking roles.

Can't see Maddison getting in the squad, although he absolutely deserves a shot.

Southgate is just a well spoken dressed up bell end. Lacks any real interesting personality and fills his pants the moment he comes up against a decent manager & team. In tournament football you always want to bring a wildcard. Ours would be madders. Italians had Chiesa in the euros (did pretty good!) now they have raspadori

But why would he do that? For sure there’s a tendency for all England managers to unconsciously look more at the top clubs but I don’t think Southgate is the worst offender by any means.
