Lots of teams do it, I remember Vardy speaking about the PL winning season when Ranieri gave them the week off during the second round FA cup weekend. He was in some gulf country vacationing, and he mentioned a few teams were there doing training while he was sipping drinks.

Mostly, it is to get them the hell out of Dodge, so they can have no distractions and, yeah, a bit of time at the beach after training. I am sure the players would prefer Abu Dhabi to Lapland, even if they would get cold weather training.

Bet Vardy doesn't sip drinks. Straight down the hatch

"We were training in the heat, so to come back and play in the cold wasn't something the players were ready for." BR boxing day post match interview.

"After the world cup break its perfectly acceptable the lads are going to need 3/4 games to get up to speed.

When that time comes, we'll assess the situation and think about the work we need to do in training to get back to our best":brendan:

Seven Leicester City youngsters among 22 players involved at Abu Dhabi training camp
Leicester City are in the United Arab Emirates for a warm-weather training camp this week as they prepare for the return of domestic football in three weeks' time

Seven members of Leicester City’s development squad have joined the senior players on the club’s warm-weather training trip to Abu Dhabi.

After a fortnight’s break, City returned to training on Monday, but rather than at their Seagrave base, they are spending this week in the United Arab Emirates, working in 30 degree temperatures to build their fitness ahead of the return to action later in December. But with a handful of their players away at the World Cup, youngsters have been called up by Brendan Rodgers and his staff.

Of the seven youngsters at the camp, four have already made their senior debuts for the club. Development squad skipper Lewis Brunt, who has been in the 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season, is included, alongside attacking midfielders Kasey McAteer and Will Alves, and central midfielder Sammy Braybrooke, who made his first senior appearance off the bench earlier this month.

The other three youngsters included are goalkeepers Arlo Doherty and Kelechi Chibueze, and full-back Joe Wormleighton, who was an unused substitute for the victory over Leeds in October, the 18-year-old making quick progress through the ranks. They are all part of a 22-man squad in Abu Dhabi.

With Danny Ward representing Wales, Daniel Iversen and Alex Smithies are the senior men in the goalkeeping unit alongside Doherty and Chibueze. Meanwhile, Jonny Evans, Jannik Vestergaard, and Luke Thomas join Brunt and Wormleighton in a group of defenders depleted by injury and World Cup call-ups.

Wout Faes and Timothy Castagne are in neighbouring Qatar with Belgium, while Daniel Amartey is there with Ghana. Injured full-backs Ricardo Pereira, James Justin, and Ryan Bertrand do not appear to be involved in training either, while Caglar Soyuncu also seems to be absent, the Turkish defender having recently struggled with a knee issue.

With Papy Mendy, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison in Qatar, the central midfielders at the camp are Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumare, Dennis Praet, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, as well as Braybrooke. McAteer and Alves complement City’s group of wide-men and forward-thinking midfielders, with Marc Albrighton, Harvey Barnes, and Ayoze Perez present.

Finally, City have their three main strikers available to them in the UAE. Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Kelechi Iheanacho are all involved.

After their stint in the Middle East, City will return home, and there are two behind-closed-doors friendlies scheduled at Seagrave as part of the build-up to the return to competitive action. Their first official game is three weeks away, against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, December 20.
