They never have been. Going right back to the 90s pre-Keegan. They get some sort of media-driven rep as being loud, eccentric nutters because a few of them get their bellies out when the temperature is -2 but the vast majority of their fanbase is just your standard sing-when-you're-winning type.

Went to Newcastle on Monday and I thought our fans were brilliant. We never really stopped singing, and a couple of Newcastle fans on Facebook said we were up there with the best away fans at St. James's park this season !

 

Re the issue of the steepness of their stand, a mate and I raced two other friends to the top.... they were going from ground floor to the top of the away stand in a lift, and we ran up the stairs.

 

I reached the top just as their lift opened, but saying that, I was in an oxygen tent for the rest of the match.

 

Sunday will be a 2016 style cauldron especially when we score and if we win.... It will be a crazy place if we still manage to stay up as well

I know we all want 90 mins fervent support but if we're 1-0 down after 40 minutes and Everton are 2-0 up at that point we know the ground will go either silent or toxic.

 

Sunday's atmosphere relies on us getting an early goal (or battering West Ham with attacking intent) and the Everton game remaining at least a draw/AFCB winning for as long as possible.

I will give it the same support today as I always do from my seat. However, it almost feels like it's through gritted teeth as they really don't deserve us. So annoying that we're even in this position. This team has lost its connection whatever the outcome.

The kop never stood up when we played Everton in 2016 so no chance we will get a standing full kop end.
