it's fascinating to see people outraged and hating others to the point where they wish them to be ruined because they hold an opposing view lol

It is by design.

The top hierarchy and their propaganda machine, celebrities, influencers, online bots and agent provocateurs have gone into overdrive in recent years, promoting groups, labels, division and manipulating our tribal instincts. Divide and conquer is still the most successful strategy when it comes to maintaining and increasing power. It’s never been easier with the technology we have today & our understanding of behavioural science.

“The literate man is a natural sucker for propaganda. You cannot propagandise a native. You can sell him rum and trinkets but you can’t sell him ideas. Therefore, propaganda is our achilles heel. It’s our weak point. We will buy anything if its got a good, hard sell tied to it. So propaganda is the great big soft spot in the makeup of the literate man”. - Marshall McLuhan, 1977.

Firstly, he's entitled to an opinion as much as anyone and no-one should be cancelled in a country proud of free speech BUT it was a stupid hyperbole to use, quite offensive to people who survived actual Nazi-ism and his smug arrogance since has shown him up for what he is - a champagne socialist, up there with the juvenile Gary Neville. He could have apologised for the wording without apologising for the sentiment but that's the ego getting in the way.

I've never bought the "one of us" shite either. From the minute he pissed off to Everton this club's been an after-thought for him. He barely mentioned us for twenty years during his career and then when we're on our knees Leicester's favourite son (and his agent) charge to the rescue. His patronising giggling about us on MOTD in recent years has just been insulting. If he stays off the air permanently I really won't give two shiny shits, MOTD is as outdated as the ban on televising 3pm kick-offs.

If that was the case, four of his five sons wouldn’t support Leicester.

Mid 30's Germany had rather similar rhetoric about "othering" people, as has already been proven on this thread.

Anti-vaxxer falls under the “othering” of people rhetoric btw. You are putting people into a group and then dehumanising that group.

Yes I am vaccinated.

... and now we get to something of a conundrum, yes.

How do you try to stop the spread of and/or damage caused by an obviously proven and threatening act of nature while not "othering" (in this context, anyhow) people and so possibly starting on a slippery slope?

If that's possible, I'd be damned grateful to see how.

You are aware that the BBC is currently run by a Tory donor.

And that is related to supposed impartiality how?

Weird comment. Sure he's done more than about 99% of the population in relation to the issue.

I associate Gary with his number 8 shirt here so how about on 8 minutes a rendition of “oh GaryGary, Gary Gary Gary Gary Lin-e-ker” and hope it coincides with some significant action on the pitch and be broadcast.  Silly me, shall we say 88th, that’s usually when we start to have a go !

Ok despite what I said in the other thread I do have an opinion on this now lol

I agree with what Lineker said and the BBC were wrong to ask him to step away for voicing his opinion on migrant boats.

I understand the intentions of the BBC on impartiality and I still maintain its one of the most impartial news broadcasters in the world if you watch news anywhere else by comparison, but they got it totally wrong here.

it’s not the first time Lineker has spoken about and against Government policy. He’s been an advocate of remaining in the EU for instance.

The Government and the BBC simply want compliance and don’t tolerate defiance.

Leicestershire MP andrew Bridgen spoke out about Uk Gov being complicit in not revealing vaccine injury data and questioned the policy propaganda surrounding covid-19. With the Hancock tapes we can see it all unraveling.

The trigger is any simile reference to the holocaust. After doing that both Bridgen and Lineker have been suspended. That reference is a red line.

I’ve always liked BBC and the quality of some programmes and presenters. But I have to question the impartiality? I think it has always been the political news arm of the establishment. With this Lineker situation We’re in danger of it turning into a Moscow pravda and an Orwellian nuspeak.

Well. Actually some of those so called offended people, have stood on  Linekers side, because the tone of Govt& BBC..plus he never used the word Nazism, only

the people who want to mistrew his statement…

whether you personally like him,or have your little agenda, has nothing, absolutely nothing to do,with him and the actual situation..

If you can’t understand that, please be honoured and take a BBC posting..

ps…and thankfully even you should have your right to an opinion…

Just to be clear, as it has been misquoted multiple times in this thread. He never mentioned the holocaust, he never mentioned the nazis. What he’s said is more nuanced than that and his views have been echoed by many.

When will people realise it is the "look it is him/her over there" whilst they fill their's and their mate's pockets?  This Lineker episode is just another thing to make some or enough people feel outraged so that they fight amongst themselves.....“Nero fiddles while Rome burns”.

Thought worth repeating -  assuming the found quote is not manipulated of course…

Quote

This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the '30s

He should have tweeted something to emphasise this

And that everyone must learn from history to avoid the catastrophic errors of the past

it’s govt who have extrapolated and spun his comments but whilst he says nothing about his words then they remain able to continue to do so.  It’s easy to say - ‘yes he didn’t actually say nazi or holocaust  but he clearly meant ‘ .  So again, language is important and he should have clarified his. He still has time but it would look like a climb down now.

just to clarify - I despise champagne socialism (although I don’t have an alternative ….)

Also worth correcting a few claims on here that the Leicester Mercury is right-wing. It's really not.

The only local paper in that group that routinely takes a political position on things is the Liverpool Echo.

It’s not a conundrum. Anti-Vaxxer is a derogatory name and dehumanising.

The necessary restrictions for COVID were achievable without the hatred of the other being spun.

Hopefully such division is not promoted during the next pandemic, which unfortunately might not be far away with the diminishing geopolitical climate and access to biowarfare.
