some of the formations would allow barnes and nacho up top, albeit slightly lopsided.

i would want to find a way to include barnes.

I do get those who find Barnes defensive and positional play frustrating. And he fluffs chances  but as you say, he has to be accomodated.

Always a giveaway to a player's ability is how the opponent reacts. Every team, every week, without fail (actually, wolves apart) goes into emergency mode when Barnes gets the ball. Two men on him. Try to force him outside or into a simple ball back.

Barnes is a matchwinner. Give me matchwinners. Always.

I get where you are coming from. we've been far to 'nice' to play against for a long time.

whoever is starting needs to buy into what you describe

real pace scares teams though

All it takes is a decent full back to mark Barnes and he’s out of the game, tactically there’s no doubt Barnes can play a huge role, but reactive in game play tactics rather than starting for me. When Tete had that blinder and VK was overlapping, Barnes was at his best, but I not sure that will happen tomorrow if you play them

So basically we are playing with 10 starters. As Vardy is so washed it’s painful to watch. No way can he play as alone striker. But he has been lethal in front of goal this season

I cant remember the last time hes had a shot? Lack of service is the main factor imo. Our strikers have barely had a sniff all season. Give the man some service then i think he’ll bang

Tbh the current squad is a shambles. We are way too over inflated

We have probably the five best full backs in the division. (VK will piss it at this level) ....it's simply too many. JJ and VK on the bench ffs. It's absurd. Castagne and maybe LT have got to go.

We are a centre half surplas. I wouldn't have bothered with the lad from Cov. He's gonna have to be something exceptional to dislodge Faes and the seemingly unfancied Souttar (who I'm certain will force his way in eventually).

We can't realistically have Wilf and Hamza on a combined 80k a week.

Praet and KDH supported by Albrighton might work.

The three strikers might work on a rotation. Daka being the ugly duckling.

Two keepers.too many. Two of Ward, Iversen, Smithies have to go. I'd be inclined to keep the Polish lad as back up as Iversen won't accept being number 2 at this level.

Whatever team the manager picks v Cov, if we have current squad available I expect wholesale changes by gameweek 4.

I see what you're saying - but if these players genuinely want to be here, and (crucially) raise their game from last season (which i'm sure they're capable of), then surely we should be over the moon. Any further sales would have to be replaced (we're already below our 25 man quota) - if the squad as it is (plus a few new wingers, minus a couple of keepers) is the squad we compete with this season, then we should be laughing, because, that's a PL squad right there.

Doyle does not need to be exceptional to dislodge Faes, he's dreadful and should be nowhere near our starting 11. I'd pick Coady, Souttar and Doyle ahead of him but problem being, if we play a back 3, Souttar is more suited to the middle where Coady will play. I could actually see JJ playing some games as the right centre back. You're right though that we Still need some shifting.

Ward/Iversen

Soumare

Ndidi/Hamza.

I'm happy to keep Thomas and Kristiansen as they are naturally left sided and given Ricardo and JJ's injury worries, I'd say having some spare full/wing backs isn't a bad thing.

Probably a stupid question but does the 25 man squad rule apply the same as it does in the prem and are there any exceptions like Thomas?

I like Faes. But I get and understand others don't. Still didn't need Doyle tho.

As it stands, I'd personally go 4321 (but obvs we won't)

Hermansen

JJ

VK

Faes

Souttar

Ricardo

Wilf or Hamza

Castagne

Praet or Winks

KDH

Kels or Vards

As it stands, I don't see JJ being in the first XI.  Even if by some miracle he's showing the brief flash of form he had 3 or 4 years ago, he looked awkward playing in the IRB role, he didn't seem to understand where he was supposed to be, at least compared to how fluidly ricardo took to the role.  The LB role seems busy and VK seemed to get the nod, so i don't see him fitting in there either.

I'd go

Hermansen

Ricardo/Faes/Coady/Doyle

Praet/Winks/KDH

Castagne/Vardy/Madivadua

ie pretty much what we've seen in pre-season.

FWIW, i don't like Castagne in that position - but we all know we need some more wingers, so time will tell.

If he wants to set up with a back 3 (which I assume he does) then we definitely did need Doyle as he's the left sided centre back. With it being a loan as well, won't have cost us much and if we get promoted and he does well, we may be able to get him permanently next summer. Also I'd be concerned about a 3 man midfield that contains 2 full backs

We still need a few attackers though in my opinion. Even if he doesn't want to play a system using wingers, we'll need some attacking midfielders and depending on what happens with Iheanacho, possibly a striker as well as Vardy won't be playing 46 games.

Ward, Iverson, Thomas, Vestergard, Castagne, N’didi, Praet, Soumare and Iheanacho will all try to be sold before the end of the window imo. Some will probably be on loan on the last few days as we’re too stubborn to accept a few million less now

No one would get in who I perceived didn't always put it in last year, even if they're better than some I've chosen. Options at the back and up front, but we are short in midfield.

With maybe three, the players we have make me think we would be capable of a decent Premier Leagues season.   But i don't feel confident about the forthcoming Championship season.

Bumping this!

Now we have so many gone and so many that have come in what is our best 11? In all honesty I haven't got a clue, I can't spell half of he squad never mind remember all of the changes! Also we could almost put out a team with just goalkeepers.

Any ideas?

Yet to see Cannon play and don’t know too much about him, but Iheanacho isn’t working at the moment.

I think the back 3 is set as Doyle, Coady, Faes when they are all fit, with Ricardo in his role.

The wingers is a tough one, I’m not completely sold on Mavidi, I think he still has a lot to learn, and end product isn’t quite there. Haven’t really seen enough of the others, Issahaku looked lovely yesterday.

Casadei needs to start in for KDH and potentially McAteer in for Ndidi.

We have a very talented squad, but getting the balance right in this formation will be a challenge. I’m not 100% convinced it’s the right formation for the players we have available in the squad.
