Most of them will go .

I can't still get my head around the fact the we were touching champions league positions and now will more than likely be relegated.

What an awful end to things.

Good ending to Vardy's film though, It almost seems planned.....

Genuinely don't rate him at all. It's okay throwing your arms up in the air to rally the crowd, but get your defending right first.

You're in a minority there I think. Been great to see an overlapping full back who can actually defend. Looks an absolute level above Thomas closer to prime Fuchs.

Just because he overlaps and throws his arms in the air does not make him a good defender. He looked poor last night.

Agreed.

The arms thing pisses me off. How about sort your performance out first.

I thought he was poor last night and at Palace.

Good topic, partly because it shows how out of touch many fans (OP included) are regarding the impact of relegation.  If we are down, 2023-4 will be about squad cost and management, not which peg might fit into which hole.  I think this is a realistic breakdown:

GONE, OUT OF CONTRACT:

Evans, Mendy, Soyuncu, Tielemans, Amartey, Bertrand, Ayoze

GONE FOR (what should be) OBVIOUS REASONS:

Barnes, Maddison, Iheanacho, Castagne, Praet, Ricardo; Souttar?

STILL HERE:

    - can lead a promotion bid: Iversen, Kristiansen, Choudhury, Faes; Souttar?

    - hopefully useful in the Championship: Justin, Ndidi, Daka, KDH, Smithies

    - useless in the Championship: Vardy, Vestergaard, Soumare, Thomas, Ward, Albrighton

If reports are correct, only the 2023 January signings have relegation clause to reduce wages.  So, boys and girls, we are looking at a top-of-the-Championship total wage bill just on those players who will not be of use even at that level.  Before we even talk about compensating guys who can play.

Signing any but absolute bargain-basement players will smash FFP unless we get promoted.  And I don't think we have the core of a promotion squad.

We're not going to sell players significantly under market value or for a loss just because we've gone down.

Take Pereira for instance, we paid c. £23m for him, he's 29 and had pretty serious injuries. We're not going to sell him to Lille for £9m just because he doesn't want to play in the championship.

Watford have kept hold of Sarr and Pedro. Villa held onto Grealish. We'll lose most of the regular Internationals playing for high ranking nations and players who've proven they're top half PL standard e.g Barnes, Iheanacho, Ndidi.

People saying that most of the squad would want to leave. If we are relegated, alot of the blame lies with Rodgers but alot is because the players simply aren't good enough. Tielemans, Maddison and Barnes are the only players who have played at a good level in the prem, the rest are either bobins or very very average. Castagne and Ricardo may have suitors abroad but thats about it. Most teams wouldn't touch most of our squad, especially given the wages most are on. We could have a similar issue to last summer where many players we want to leave won't because their wages are too high. Nobody will touch the likes of Vestergaard. We could be in a right financial mess and need a full reset but don't have the finances to do it.

Even if we do manage to stay up, the likes of Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, Villa have overtaken us and we don't have the finances to improve enough to match them, so best we can hope for is a lower mid table finish next season. Even Everton and West Ham will probably spend more than is, if they both stay up.

Would definitely agree - he was being beaten every 5 minutes last night.

Sometimes we get blinded as fans by the passion some players have, and you can't doubt Kristiansen's passion. But he looks raw, and he looks like he's going to be beaten every 5 minutes by a winger.

Agree with that although I think Grealish is a little different, he was very young and only scored 1 goal for Villa before they went down. He wasn't proven top half PL standard at that point like Maddison is now.

Maddison I missed off because it's obvious he'll be gone. There was a lot of hype around Grealish and I'm sure teams were interested in 19 year old English player but tbf you're right I didn't realise he was so young and played so little

What scares me most is that our current wage structure will be unsustainable if we get relegated to the Championship, due to Financial Fair Play.

We have been constrained of late resulting in lack of investment, but it will be even worse if we drop through the trap door.

Most of our players will need to take substantial pay-cuts, or leave, with the latter being the more likely option as we will likely be heavily penalised if we don't reduce the wage bill.

That said, I can rather see pigs taking flight than Vestergaard being willing to take a pay-cut on his undeserved £70k-a-week wage,

For the sake of having a competitive squad that is now stripped apart, we need to stay up. God help us if we don't. We have gone from being astutely run, to being mis-managed for a few years now, and the chickens are coming home to roost. Rumour has it they're waiting outside, currently pecking on the door of the coop.

We have a ready made replacement for Barnes in Will Alves.

Lets hope his career is not over before it has begun.  Along with Braybrooke we may never see them fulfill their potential with the injuries they have.

A lot of it will come down to whether the players want out themselves. They have so much control these days and so many offers that will come from the most random of places.

I think we'll genuinely need about a dozen new signings minimum.

Thats what the parachute payments are for. Unless they're out of contact, players like Vardy ain't leaving and they ain't taking massive paycuts.

It was CRIMINAL giving Vardy a 2 year contract!

This is no longer a time to be nice to players, they will fleece us for everything, someone needs to have the balls to tell them that they must honour their contracts if we are relegated, i bet Maddison and tete would start putting the shifts in if they're  told they'll  be playing in the championship next year

Maddison and Tete are off no matter what.

We'll need to cash in on players I'd imagine, we can't have unhappy players losing value and running down contracts any more. It's been bad enough at this level.

We'd be cashing in to basically pay the wages of what players are left though, which means no investment for new players. Personally, i'd sack them for not upholding the standards set by the club, must be in their contracts somewhere.

Faes, Ricardo, Ndiddi, Castagne, Nacho and Daka all depend on having willing buyers.

i could see all or none of them going.

Barnes, Tielemans and Maddison are as others have said the players who will command a good fee.
