Who would everyone choose for their combined XI?

That's a great question and needs some serious consideration!

Khawaja

Duckett

Smith

Root

Labuschagne

Bairstow (wk)

Stokes

Starc

Lyon

Cummins

Anderson

Would have Brook in for Bairstow but someone has to keep wicket and Bairstow is better all round than Carey.

Actually a lot harder than I thought, you'd automatically pick Marnus and Smith but Travis Head has been in outrageous form over the past couple of years

Difficult because there are more consistent batters than Stokes and probably better bowlers but you wouldn't not have him in there would you?

Warner

Labuschagne

Smith

Root

Pope

Stokes

Bairstow (wk)

Cummins

Broad

Anderson

Lyon

Probably gone more Aussie than I thought I would, harsh on Duckett maybe but feel he may struggle in this series. If the match was on Asia than Khawaja plays. Reckon Marnus could open. I do think Pope is better at 5 so it would be him or Head.

In English conditions you could probably have any of the seam bowlers and have a very good team.

I didn't pick Warner because he tends to get splatted in conditions that don't entirely suit him.

Also, he's a bogan arse.

That's what I settled on too. Torn between Boland and Cummins but latter edged it based on experience and adding a bit with the bat.

Broad, Anderson, Robinson confirmed as fast bowlers for 1st test.

That England bowling attack looks seriously light to me on what is going to be a decent batting deck. Let’s hope the batsman can put the Aussies out of sight.

Bat first whenever winning the toss!

Anderson will be the oldest player to open the bowling for England in the Ashes since George Geary of Leicestershire in 1934

Not always.

Take the weather and pitch into account. But at Edgbaston, with this forecast, correct.
