The rise of Patson Daka

Like many of you, for me yesterday was a day of acceptance for our fait. Maybe I vocalized all season that we were going down but deep inside I always believed we were too good, that we’d turn it around. It’s not going to happen and i’m now at peace with that. So my brain has switched to how we get back in this league. 
 

It got me really thinking about our squad and who might develop into better players because we’ve dropped down. I think there’s an argument that sometimes you need to go back to go forwards.  You look at teams like brentford and fulham and see how time in the championship can be used to nurture players and get them to a decent level. 
 

We have a few players that need this and who knows, if we have a great promotion campaign we might actually turn some players into stars. KDH, Thomas, Souttar, Iversen, VK.. even faes could all benefit from a year learning to win. Not to mention the room to integrate youth like Alves and Braybrooke and possibly a few more. 

 

But as the title says, it’s Daka that I think needs this the most. I think that the premiership has been a bit too much for him. But he has some raw talent that I think we can all see. His finishing ability is almost unique and I really think that if we can get him a year in the championship working on his link up play he has the potential to be that 30 goal striker. If we can get him into that form and back to what he used to do, I can really see him being our main man when we return to the prem. You see how mitrovic needed that running start to reach those levels, the same as toney and watkins who just took the confidence of the championship with them. Heck, even an average player like pukki had a decent return in a poor norwich team.  

 

Maybe this could be an opportunity for a year of development and when we return, we might have built a new culture and ethos, the recentering that we need 

 

Dakas biggest problem, in my opinion, was that he was joining jamie vardy fc. There was never a moment when we were planning to change our approach to suit him, it was always you must play in the way that worked for vardy. maybe it’s time to utilize him in a way that lets him shine. 

 

Give daka a nugent to work with and you’ll see him fly

Not been good enough in the Prem and he might not want  to ply his trade in the championship

If he sticks around a season in the championship might be the making of him but my fear is he's too lightweight for that division too.  I'd love him to stick around and come good though.

His basics are shit. Gets knocked off the ball so easy, at times struggles to control it, and I don't want to talk about some of his efforts on goal.

 

One of the reasons we are in this mess is having players not good enough like Daka.

 

4 goals against a team equvilent to a football league side will never change my mind about him.

I think he runs riot in the championship if we have a team that creates chances for him. 

 

However, should we be offered decent money I'd be tempted to cash in.

He’ll go abroad. Too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League. Iheanacho will stay in the Premier League, I imagine. 
 

Can see our striking options being Vardy, a new signing and Hirst, next season.

Sure but replace Daka with Vardy and that’s a May 2013 Foxes Talk post.

 

He’s never been given a significant stretch of games, never had a system that’s designed to get the best out of him, he’s got speed, he knows how to score goals, if his attitude is right and he gets a manager who believes in him he could be great for us. Personally I think he’ll be getting interest from top flight clubs and moving on this summer, but I do hope he stays and we look to him as our main source of goals next year (assuming Kelechi gets the move he deserves).

I don't think you can call his basics shit when he scored as many as he did in Austria (regardless of the standard of the league) you still have to do the basics well.

Let's be honest, he's not too dissimilar to Ahmed Musa is he? Recoup as much of the transfer fee as we can and call it another miss.

No I absolutely know you did, I just meant it’s exactly the sort of post you’d see in 2013 on here about Jamie. The point is, like Vardy in 2013, Daka hasn’t had enough of an opportunity to be a success or failure here yet. And personally I hope he gets that chance because I really think he’d be the former.

He's a much better footballer than Musa.

 

Musa was chaos, Daka just isn't that well rounded.

I don't think we will be losing him, nobody is likely to pay him what we do. If he can't get 20 in a Championship season , then we will have to admit it hasn't worked.

Oh, sorry thought you meant me personally! Yeah you are probably right but realistically how many players turn their career around like Vardy did (at the same club)? I would love to be proved wrong but I just don't see it.
