According to Transfermarkt, Bristol City have only spent €1.6m since the start of the 20/21 season which is less than all of the clubs mentioned apart from Rotherham who finished below them.

On transfers yeah.

Yeah they have had a crazy high wage will and ridiculous losses even back to the 21/22 accounts. Should be back to some sort of sensible equilibrium once they get rid of the last of the high earners like Kalas this summer.

Another legacy of the old regime and predating Nige, who has cut at least 20m of the wage bill since he joined and hence why he's had about 10 quid to spend.

If we want to stay in the championship then sure, if we want to progress as a club you need someone like Kompany/ carrick to take the team and use their connections to the bigger clubs. Yes they’ll probably get poached by a bigger club if successful but then you have a contingency plan like Brighton do.

Like, how we stayed in the Championship, and before that league 1, last time he was here? Yer Donut!

Someone make a good argument for why Pearson should come back here? He doesn't have the greatest records since leaving us does he? Watford gig was a joke. Surely if he was the greatest thing since sliced bread he'd have had better opportunities?

He took Watford from 7 points off safety to 3 above the relegation zone 4/5 months later.

Leuven and Bristol City are the only sides who’ve given him close to enough time to do what he’s best at, which is squad building. And I’d suggest managing Bristol City in the English 2nd tier is a lot more like managing Leicester in the English 2nd tier. Bristol City started in a worse state than we did when Pearson took over the second time and have much more limited resources, but if you go over to their forum the majority are saying exactly the same things we know he does well, he’s building a talented young side that give a shit and cutting costs while he does it. The man’s absolutely perfect for the situation we find ourselves in.

Honestly man I love him but don't want him here again. You move on in football.

I want someone young and dynamic here. I look at the likes of Burnley, Ipswich, Luton, Middlesbrough.

He is but as I said elsewhere he wouldn't come anyway. He's in the 3rd year of a project at  Brizzle,  where things are starting to click and he wouldn't get given that time here, and would be out on his ear within a year.

It'll be Russell Martin as he probably does slick PowerPoint presentations at interview and  has good possession stats.

I guarantee if Pearson was in charge today instead of Smith no way would we have lost 3-0

Half of them would never see the pitch.

He ran the club as a manager, and got good staff around him top to bottom, since then the staff has been dismantled by not a manager but a jumped up ten a penny coach, everyone in football knows football, but it takes a special person to manage a club and organise a staff for success, ignoring egos and handling players well. We need a manager back, not a coach who only knows football. They all do.

I love Big Nige but I could only genuinely get behind this if the whole band got back together.

Shakespeare seems to have moved on? Walsh is doing what nowadays?

Rather than being linked with another Rodgers, I’d love us to be linked with a Pearson type with a key focus on sports science, strong work ethic and the humility of having a team around him that actually enhance the dynamics rather than pathetic yes men.

New name continental builder, bring his team, bring his connections, and let’s see the excitement.

To be fair to Brighton and naughty to Rodgers (Mr 2 year best before date), Brighton are signing players well, but perhaps managers even better

I don’t want him back.
Those that do tell me what he’s achieved elsewhere. Finishing mid table in the championship. It’s been over 10 years since he achieved what he did with us. I’m eternally grateful to him but time moves on and we have to. Not look back.

Because last time he was here, he built a team that went on to win the Premier League, not to mention the League 1 and Championship seasons and the clear out he did when he came in before.

And we need a manager like Pearson so why not just go for him.

Being serious. We need leadership and a complete overhaul. He has done it twice for us before and I would trust him far more than other names bandied about.

Smith is not the answer. Absolute baffling line up once more and equally baffling subs like taking your leading scorer off when we are 2-0 down.

Time to pucker up Top and kiss his ass. Promise him what ever he needs and agree to clear out the deadwood from the highest level down.

Let go. For the love of god let go. Football has moved on

It's funny isn't it. How many PL clubs or even most Championship clubs would have fans salivating at the prospect of Pearson becoming their next manager?

It's not so much Pearson is a bad shout for me, but I just feel those who are desperate for him to return are very shortsighted and don't realise that there will be many other managers out there that could do a better job.

well he’s Abrasive and that what cost him the opportunity here basically. He won’t bring instant success and takes his time in changing a club from top to bottom and most chairman these days want instant results.. And we really are the only team that’s afforded him time to completely change the club.  With regards to Bristol City… tiny transfer budget, he’s slashed 20m from the wage budget and he’s changing the mentality of the playing staff, shifting deadwood and giving the club more stability. With a more stable club,  now is the time for them to start climbing the table.

how much of a mess are we in?  There’s a lot to change about Leicester and he’s proven he can do that when given time.  But if we are in a right mess, I think he’s be the one to sort it.

if we are wanting an instant return to the prem and carry on like this was just a blip and everything is happy again, then maybe not.

Is there anybody who doesn’t want this? Our best chance of avoiding years of obscurity is to get back to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

Re: Pearson, instinctively it feels like an unimaginative choice - a regressive move by a club that can’t think of what else to

do. But then you read that the alternatives are Russell Martin or giving it to Smith permanently, and suddenly it doesn’t seem such a bad idea after all…

Smith and arguably Martin have done more in the last 8 years than Pearson though
