Harvey Barnes is terrible at these. His tackles, blocks and clearances in particular are woeful. 

 

Mavididi does a significant amount more defensive work than Barnes.

Admittedly I know know next to nothing outside FM and what I've saw on YT which is less than nothing really but I'm very sceptical about those highlight compilations. I don't think I've seen one that ends before the final product quite so much. 

 

I won't judge him, and at the end of the day if the quoted price is accurate, it not a great risk so let's get behind the lad.

Statistically the end product is there. 

 

Looking at the three seasons he's been in Ligue 1 and comparing him to Barnes over the same time he has 0.32 goals per game vs 0.36 for Barnes. 

 

In that time Barnes created 0.12 expected goal assists per game vs Mavididi at 0.09.

 

Mavididi makes slightly fewer key passes a game but has a much better take-on success percentage and does a LOT more defensively. 

 

We could do a lot, lot worse really. Bit harsh to question his end product because of the way some twelve year old has edited his Media Studies project to focus more on the dribbling.

I think I might be one of them, I was really underwhelmed when I first read his name and now I think it's the best bit of business we've done since Steve Walsh was wandering round a Normandy port town and thought he'd go watch a game of footy to pass the time.
