Enzo Maresca has said that there won’t be a major change in how Leicester City approach the game when they come up against Liverpool in their final pre-season friendly.

City take on Jurgen Klopp’s side in Singapore on Sunday morning with kick-off at 10am UK time. The match will be by far the team’s biggest test during pre-season.

The cancellation of last week’s clash against Tottenham means that the highest rank teams that City have faced are League One Northampton Town or sister side OH Leuven. Maresca’s men came out as winners in both of those games.

The Italian has been working with his new squad to implement his playing style, which has been evident in the friendlies so far. Starting with a back four, City have been playing with an inverted full-back in possession, meaning they move into midfield, with a back three behind.

All of the friendlies so far have seen City dominate possession, but that may not be so much the case against Liverpool. Ahead of the game, Maresca has said that the plan won’t change drastically, although there could be some tweaks.

“Absolutely, it will be a good test for us, it’s just one week before the official game,” he told Foxes Hub.

“Our idea, on the ball, and off the ball will be quite similar, I don’t think we need to change completely. For sure, of course we’re going to modify some things but we can not think only because the opponent is strong or weak, we can behave in one way or a different way.

“I think that the team needs to have a clear idea, as we saw (against Port FC), and from there, keep it going.”

The clash against Liverpool is City’s last before they go into Championship action. The season kicks off on Sunday, August 6, when City take on rivals Coventry City at the King Power Stadium (12pm kick off).

Very interesting to see that we have (or are working to have) a style of play that caters for easier and tougher games alike.

Should take away the managers need to shit the bed and change everything 100% to completely cater for opposition tactics. Obviously in matches like this where you would expect the opposition to be too strong for us, it might not be pretty but I'm looking forward to seeing how we cope.

...very much like a complete change of shape and confidence, when Barnes was not fit to play!!!

With the Maresca style of play, someone can jump into the role and be effective, without having to change everything because one man is not available.

Interesting to see if Castagne is involved as Enzo previously said he only wants the players who want to be here to be part of the squad . No point involving any player that might leave before next weekend

We could be very good tomorrow and still end up thumped… and after a relegation that can be all that’s needed for doubt to creep back in. There is really absolutely nothing to gain from this friendly, it’s not preparing us for cov in the slightest… it’s not even good fitness as we will be camped in our half all game… i won’t be getting up at 5am for this one… i might have done for bradford.

I’m feeling a bit frustrated with everything and it’s all a bit dejavu. I’m not emotionally ready for the season to start again

Is it open to everyone with a log in, or do we have to pay for that subscription?

If you are already registered on lcfc.com then you will get the match live. Otherwise you will need to register. No fees involved.

A thumping might be good for us! It’s a meaningless game, but if we are humbled it might give players a massive kick up the bum and possibly speed up transfers. All of the PR around this trip has been awful, galavanting around the world on some victory parade… after being relegated. At least in 2016 we won the damn thing.

The game should be interesting as we’ll be playing a style that could easily get torn to pieces by the opposition, but who knows, we might be ahead of them fitness wise and it could be a morale booster. They basically have an entirely new midfield and it takes time to learn Klopp’s system.

the one benefit might be that if Maresca was thinking of going with vesty over souttar… it won’t take long to work out why he wasn’t given games before

I might watch but I had enough of seeing them being outplayed last season.

I still don’t think the club has turned the corner and actually accepted where we are and what we are up against. All I see though their social media and many emails is business as usual, you would think last season didn’t happen. I just expected a change in our approach.

It’s not so much the managerial or the playing side, although I don’t think we’re anywhere near settled and where we should be with a week to the season starting.

I’m not feeling as relaxed going into next weekend as I thought I would be in June.

I'd be interested to know what makes you feel that way.  Personally, the massive clearout of coaches/doctor etc, the young exciting risky managerial appointment and a return to picking passionate experience/untried unknown youngsters, plus the 1-year contract boys clearing off, makes it feel like it couldn't be further from last year and that they have gone right back to basics?  And the posts on intstgram seem to be focussed on hard work, on the team as a unit, on physicality?

Just asking.

Me too. On another thread earlier, somebody wrote that he thought that people at the top of the club are complacent about our situation and think that we’ll just need to show up to beat any Championship team. I have no idea why people think this - it’s not my impression of the club’s attitude at all.

To be fair - all any of us can go on is guesswork based on what the club has done and what we've seen online - the club, as ever, are giving absolutely nothing away.

I think it also comes down to expectations - it seems a lot of fans feel we've been slow in the TF market, others feel either that we've done enough or at least prefer us to have been cautious rather than make the mistakes of previous years.

And obviously, there's still people that can't get past the idea that every member of our board, 18 months ago, suddenly became an indifferent moron - which, the more i see this season, the more i find it impossible to believe.  And, of course, there are those people who just seem hell bent on finding fault with every single detail of club, team, media etc etc, regardless of what's actually happening in front of them.

From a footballing perspective, again, we really don't have much to go on - but for me, the difference was seeing us put out two XIs against northampton that seemed to have instantly grasped maresca's basics.

I'm excited about this season, hopefully even more so by the end of the TF window.

Like I said it’s not against the playing side, it was inevitable a new manager would come in who would have new ideas,  a lot of players would leave and some would come in. That was happening regardless. That’s not been done by choice more than necessity. Enzo looks a good choice and the players we have signed look solid.

There’s been no change in those who let Rodgers take the club beyond the point of no return last season. We’ve conducted a review into how we screwed up but just total silence from them. The last 18 months have destroyed any confidence in them.

I don’t look at our social media posts anymore, we were sinking last year and all we kept hearing was same old thing. They were fighting and putting in the effort last season whilst sinking like a stone.

It’s just a lot of small things that add up.

The most reliable source on Twitter telling us we have signed a player but the club won’t unveil him for days as no one is left in the UK to take a few photos, put together a little video and ask the same questions we ask every signing.

Requesting a Season Ticket Card from a mobile one. The mobile pass updating and then receiving the card in the next day’s post.

As a STH getting an email telling me about the member’s ballot for away tickets.

All the changes have been on the playing side away from that I don’t see any change away from that. It’s like someone really needs to take control and wake them all up.

I’m not confident because if it doesn’t come right on the field I don’t know where that leaves us.

Fair enough.  I guess people have reacted to the causes/reactions to last season differently, and if you've had issues with you ticketing, that's not good.

I hope that you'll be able to put it behind you and see that last season was just part of the rollercoaster rather than a tidal shift in the running of the club....
