Are we missing a playmaker?

I’d be inclined to drop KDH or Wilf for Casadei. 
He’s probably the only one in the mid that can act as a central playmaker. 
 

Other than him, yes, there’s isn’t a central playmaker.

I don’t know whether you’ve realised but Foden, De Bruyne, Bernardo and Grealish are all more than capable playmaking 10’s.

Doesn't help when the pairing we've started 4/5 league matches with routinely spend the game alternating between misplacing passes and chasing their first touches around the pitch

Yeah, exactly? So we don't need A playmaker. We need 3/4 creative, attacking midfielders. Which we seem to have.

I'd at least TRY dropping both of them for a game or two and seeing how a Casadei/Mcateer combo gets on.

Although I would drop Wilf in a heartbeat, Casado is not a playmaker. He is not renowned for his passing. He is a bulldozer of a player who arrives in the box at the right time.

I would drop KDH for Casadei and let him slot into that role when we get the ball, I did initially think Winks would be able to step into a playmaking role to be honest but it doesn’t really seem his style.

I think when he starts casadei we’ll look better, and then either KDH improves or he’s got to lose his place, but to who I’m not sure.

I thought he’d play higher up, and do that role. 
But he seems to be fairly deep a lot of the time. 
He’s great at recycling it, and keeping it ticking over nicely. 
But I personally do think we’re missing someone in front of him, higher up the pitch to be that real magic playmaker.

I'm concerned our 8's don't have the ability to take the ball forward and unlock defences, Casadei is excellent at attacking the box but so far we've not seen him on the ball creating. I actually think McAteer is the one available that could help us in that regard, he's not amazing in that field but his energy and confidence to go forward would be more of a threat than KDH or Ndidi at the minute.

 

Fatawu and Mavididi's pace together should give the 8's the impetus to join them and then the striker should be freed up to as a result.

 

We've seen scant evidence of that so far though whilst getting the squad changes. In the 7 games + pre-season we've not scored many nor really created much either. It's by and large been about as exciting as a Nicolas Cage movie. (The Rock and Con Air are class FYI but many others are beige as fcuk)

I don't doubt Casadei is a good player but I'm not quite convinced he's that creative either.

I'd also like to see both dropped for a game and see what it looks like with praet when fit and casadei in there . For me KDH has been honking apart from 45 against cov and wilf seems lost there .

The bottom line is, we have four, supposedly, top notch senior number 9s on the books Cannon, Vardy, Iheanacho and Daka, with seemingly nobody to feed them the bullets from centre midfielder.

 

People will say “we don’t play a system with number 10s anymore” blah blah. 
 

Well drop one of your number 8s then!!

A player capable of playing as an 8 (which Maddison did at Norwich) is not the same as an out and out 10. 

 

The creativity in this system comes not from one player but the system itself, creating asymmetrical overloads to be exploited by quick switches. That requires the movement to be right from the 8s and wingers, and for the quarterbacking players to be able to make those switches. We've seen it a bit from Doyle with the ball for McAteers winner at Rotherham but too often him, Vestergaard and Faes carry the ball too far and close the gaps to make those passes or to get their near wings on the ball and in space (something which always used to annoy me with Cags under Rodgersball). Then the 8s. While the idea is clear with Wilf, to press high and force turn overs in the attacking third, Wilfs attacking movement is awful, and Dewsbury-Hall is pretty limited and out of form. Dewsbury-Hall might be able to make it in this system if he gets himself grounded again and works on his passing, Casadei needs to replace Wilf soon though

We've been used to Maddison pulling the strings for 4 years and now he's gone there is a massive hole. He's gone up another gear at Spurs, and to think there were plenty who ddn't want him at Leicester

He WOULD have smashed it in Enzo's system, playing as an 8, not as a 10 which perfectly proves the point that playing without a 10 isn't the the issue. The issue is that our 8's aren't creative enough. 

 

That's why, I've been saying that we should put one of Marcal and Mcateer there alongside Casadei. You're undoubtedly going to get more creativity, it's just yet to be seen what we'll be trading off for it.

Had we equalised I think we would have gone on to win on Saturday however my auntie is not my uncle so ifs and buts and maybe's.........the point in here though surely is to relax and let the process of Enzo building his ethos will take some time - he needs to bed in his ways of playing and 7 games is nothing plus half the creative players he wanted only joined last week or a couple of weeks ago. I think Praet is a big blow in the short term as he is capable of providing the link and is a bright footballer with experience at the top level which is why Enzo wanted to retain him......if he can get 50-60% of his ideas working and then we get better quality into the box we have the fire power to more than in the mix by January - I think some fans have delusions of grandeur and need to accept we are starting again so it maybe a bit bumpy but the division is poor and if we are patient we will get there as the players we have are more than good enough!
