When I left the ground last night I bumped in to some Sunderland fans, reasonable chaps - and weirdly they were absolutely gagging for recognition... "We were good though weren't we" , "Are we the best side you've played" , "I think we deserved at least a draw didn't we"

Said no, Stoke were better, weren't even worried, weren't even loud, we weren't even trying and it was another walk in the park.

Moral of the story, keep your feelings to yourself, pretend we're invincible & don't give anything away.

Not to sure this was the right course of action, it wasn’t so long ago this could have been our fans. It wouldn’t have cost much to be nice and send them away with a bit of a spring in their step.

They pressed high and went man for man

so it was tough to play out

the space was wide where the wingers were left isolated one for one which is pretty brave by Mowbray

with a one goal lead we didn’t look comfortable playing out against that kind of high press and clearly didn’t want to risk it - so the tactic second half became playing it long to casadei who had the beating of his marker in the air and for nacho or vards to pick up the flick on or to win a throw. Clearly not the kind of control we usually have but enzo will work on it because there are solutions with movement from the wingers and the eights

They took a nod from Blackburn’s press didn’t they? Push up on the double pivots of Winks and Ricardo.

In that game though we still managed to get the ball into the wingers beating the press. This time we went longer with it. A bit more intelligence taking advantage of their high press of their big four woukd have killed then

Nada..give these fans raring for recognition nothing…Tell them the truth, and hit where it hurts, but still have a beer & recognise they exsist, just not yet on our level…

Once in the PL..some foxes fan will bump into fans from top 8 side, who also won’t, step back…

I like the remit of the young Sunderland side, some well planned organised midfield to forward movement, but @Jack1993

( not my way) told some home truths, IMO a couple of other past played teams seemed to me more threatening…

There hasn’t been a game, where the oppo hasn’t created decent chances, but both them and our unconverted movemement

towards those chances have been (bias siren) quite sublime,

and outside their GKs,our For column should of been a lot healthier.

Sunderland,if they hold their nerve, might get top 6,this year, but I see them as the possible runaways for next season..

If this was our 2nd championship season,I would be lambasting our wast, from our top class all round movement…

Fortunately ,thankfully, we are only 13 games into a total rebuild season, but even amidst some poor periods,we have constantly have had quality movement & thought through all games, that would have graced any PL stadium..

Although the shirt pull started outside the rules of football meant it still should have been a penalty.

If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.

Apologies if it's already been stated, but the ref didn't blow his whistle until he went down. I assume that meant he didn't judge the initial grab as a foul.

Anyway the ref was a 🔔 end.

I made most of it up to impress strangers on a forum to be honest mate, nice to see you're the worlds most moral man though

I quite liked the idea that we went long to mix up out tactics, it shows  flexibility that we'll need going forward. The only problem was that most of the long balls ended up with Sunderland. Mads passing was terrible and definitely needs improvement.

Weird how the media (including the Mockery) are only focused on the Faes penalty and have ignored the far more clear and obvious one of Fatawu. Doesn't matter now but still rankles.

I still don't understand XG. So last night our XG was 1.39 compared to their 0.96. What are they scoring the likes of Nacho's chance and the 2 efforts by Casadei? And what does the goal itself count as? Just seems low for what I thought were massive chances

I think some of the xG data must be taking into account that the goal was from a corner as it is pretty low on the xG. Guess headers in the 6 yard box from corners are not usually so free.

I think also worth bearing in mind that very good chances could be as low as 0.3xG (a penalty is c0.75). You can use FotMob to see the xG of each shot. Shows it quite well that for all their shots Sunderland never really got into very good scoring positions.

Most inept, incompetent, woeful performance I have seen in a very long time.  Take a bow Keith Stroud.

Highlight of the night their centreback holding Vestergaurd from the corner, then proceeds to throw him to the floor and not content with that holds him to the floor.  Vesterguaard complains and lo and behold gets his customary yellow card.

Sunderland, tried hard and going forward looked good until the final third, couldnt score in a brothel springs to mind.

Take the points, looking forward to my day out in London on Saturday.

I’ve read a lot of “Could have been’s” on this topic. They should have said “Would have been’s”

there were a number of outrageous misses in this game by our so called strikers.

Unacceptable by any standards, these are professional footballers being paid an outlandish amount

of money, we as supporters should demand a far better representation than what we saw last night.

If it wasn’t for the equally poor finishing of the very mediocre opposition we could well have lost that match.

the position we are in just highlights the sheer mediocrity of the Championships teams.

We should be beating these teams comprehensively.

They’re a striker away from being a ‘genuine’ threat to the automatic places. They have good movement, creativity and find space well. They lack composure in the final thought though.

Read a lot of praise for their right winger. Tough to agree. For me he’s the typical mould of a good Championship standard winger. Direct, tricky but lacks end product. With end product we’re talking about him in a very different bracket entirely.

It did highlight for me the gulf in class. Next season we should be facing a better version of that type of game every week. But with players that can take their chances. Faes slipping into his  old rash habits was a worry and the shift in approach from Mads in the last 20 to long kicks due to the press imposed wasn’t an easy watch.

Thought JJ outside of his goal had his strongest game of the season. Maybe it was due to the switch or he’s getting used to more game time.

Nevertheless, good result against a different challenge. Roll on the weekend.

I thought Justin and Ricardo's recovery/closing down pace seemed to be back somewhere nearer to where it used to be for the first time ina long time. Often it looked like it came as a bit of a surprise to them aswell, but both them put in some really good bursts to get back or to get clear of someone on the break.

do we know the expected return on Doyle? shape wise we have definitely changed our style since not having a left footed in the back 3, 4.

Please understand,I am putting this across how good mates have a bing bang,

Its just for debate…and you are definitely lighter on individual players on cross examine..of falling into old habits..

Maybe also just a misunderstanding..but I will bounce of this post..

In sport, everybody no matter what level, will go up a notch

,they learn from their experiences, they grow ,they mature in their life & the presented sport(s) they participate in…

The unknown is the „how far“  &  „what big steps does one achieve“

Who ever present Player one  mentions ,will with different or same team, up their

credentials, exactly like normal joe in their own field of work..

Isnt it a bit arrogant has onlooker even worse if a participant to say,I have seen this and that guy over 1-2 seasons..They cant do the job..I expect in an higher, questioning capacity…

Maddison, has gone one notch further,Lineker..

Winks ,Ndidi could of melted & dissolved in a football twighlight, and never a spark of interest ever shown again, for an higher call…

Leicester is that type of club, that keeps giving, rekindle, reshape has been written like Brighton rock through our credentials…We are not the only club, but probably rarer has the past in the how..

From Unknown to household names ,have we seen football gypsies open up with us..LCFC, 14yrs of snot nose urchins and some well greased nobles, stay on or improved tremendously their lot…

And fans still insist.once a bum ,or failed, then always & only on the back burner. When attempting the next lift up..

No.no my friend, I expect from our fans a more open approach to our young & older players potential…Why some have even put Ndidi,Ricardo,Huth,Morgan Mr Leicester,

Vardy, & Schmeichel..plus X many more, where fans end up  again & again, with egg on their faces

Agree with you.

My concern is this is fast becoming the blueprint to playing against us, and Daniel Farke at Leeds will be seeing this game and looking to replicate it. I've no issue with us going long, but in this game it meant we lost control and the game became more 50/50. If teams play man-to-man, one way to beat it is with bounce passes and playing it round the corner, which we know how to do. But we didn't do it enough yesterday! Our striker does drop deep too, often to make a 3rd midfielder, so the 8's can move into the space the striker leaves. But teams are starting to get wise to our movements and patterns.

Man.city,L‘pool have tat same problem that the opposition know what you are going to do..this is not something unique or special…

The answer is we know you know, but at present you can’t do anything about it,because there is always that +1 in our locker.

We did see why Kel was not brought by any big side last night however. Painfully unclinical at times

Why we needed a new striker, though we have yet to see him.

Vardy is in his final season having lost his pace if not his fight, Nacho blows hot and cold and Daka has just never really shown much here, maybe Maresca is turning him into a machine and is yet to unleash him but I doubt it.

It’s not about being ‘the world’s most moral man’ it doesn’t have to be that binary, but just be decent.

That was a very enjoyable ten minute read. Seems a very grounded forum - virtually no insults, moronic comments or abusive messages. Quite similar to here ….. except for the insults, moronic comments and anusive messages. 👍

'anusive' has to be the best Freudian slip typo EVER.
