Unbelievable one of our best ever players is being taken the piss out of and one penalty seems to have defined his whole time here. He was a brilliant player for us.

He was. But he was also part of one of, if not the most shameful Premier League relegations you could dream of.

Remembering just his good bits is as ridiculous as just remembering the bad bits.

He wasn't at all to blame though was he? He was one of the best in the league before the world cup, and always gave his all. If just 3 or 4 others were anywhere near his standard we wouldn't have gone down.

The world cup was in December. He downed tools as much as anyone else after that

Grow up. He was our best player and was largely brilliant in his time here. Anyone who thinks he was to blame for relegation shouldn't bother watching football. It's the same as those who I heard berating Mahrez whilst he was here.

Maybe mention all the times he won games for us with his goals and overall contribution instead of highlighting rare errors he made.

Fvck me man I never said he was "to blame for relegation".

But to say he came be absolved of any blame is completely crackpot.

Can't believe some of you dare to make gags on JAMES MADDISON'S BIRTHDAY FFS.

Us true LCFCxJM10 fans will have have a whip round and send him a MoonPig card signed by all of us since so many of you seem to hate him so much.

He won’t be playing bcos of his injury for a few weeks…

So he has cart Blanche how he celebrates…over  maybe a 48hr period

Then training rebuild duty & responsibility..kicks in.

Once a player leaves the foxes circle,my interest goes into slowdown and peripheral. If he plays later for England then my interest is and stays on that

platform…I don’t feel or have thoughts on bragging rights. Interest stays distant.

I have 3 family birthday  this month…no Ex-fox-player can break through that circle..

Random post…noticed that the club didn’t acknowledge the birthday of Madders today.

Surprising that they acknowledge the majority of ex players, but complete silence on our ex FA cup winner.

Yes, I’m bored following the international weekend, probably the only one to notice it and the only person bothered but just thought it was strange from the social media team

During a lull in proceedings at tomorrow's match, I hope you'll seize the opportunity to start a chant........

"Happy Birthday to you, James Maddison, happy birthday to you!". Bound to go well, I'd say.

You are right, of course.

But life isn't fair.  And sport is life.

Some good players are remembered for great things eg:
 - Steve Walsh's winning goal in the 1994 playoff final v Derby,
 - Steve Claridge's goals to win the 1996 playoff final v Palace and the 1997 League Cup Final replay v Middlesbrough,
 - Matt Elliott's 2 headers to win the 2000 League Cup Final v Tranmere.

Youri Tielemans may not have done much in his last 2 years, but he's got that FA Cup Final goal in 2021 for him to be remembered by.

Some not-so-good players are also remembered for great things eg:
 - Joe Water's 2 goals on his debut in the 1974 FA Cup Quarter final at QPR,
 - Tony James's goal v Oxford in 1991 to avoid relegation to the 3rd Division,
 - Richard Smith injury time winner v Palace in 1992 to secure our first FA Cup win in 7 years.

Some good players are remembered for terrible mistakes eg:
 - Ian Wilson was a good midfielder for us, but his most memorable moment was a hideous own goal in the 1982 FA Cup Semi Final.

And just as goals scored at the end of a match, are generally more memorable than one scored early on ... so your lasting memory of a player can be what they did at the end of their time at your club.

And unfortunately many fans, possibly even most, will remember Maddison for two moments:  A terrible back-pass that gifted Bournemouth victory, and a saved penalty that would probably have kept us up.  That's not really fair on his generally very good 5 years at our club.   But life's not fair, and that's just sometimes how it is.
