Desperation shouldn’t be the reason to put the club in more financial risk, it’s one of the reasons we are where we are- recruiting overpaid players with little resale value is just burning cash.

It’s why I’m only pushing and advocating for this one as long as it’s amongst others like Ivanovic.

The club seem to be making tough decisions annd subsequently our squad is rapidly losing its better players. Which as a fan you don’t want to see but when will the penny drop with some, we have to do this. I hope we bring some players in but we can’t make the mistake of overpaying on wages like we’ve done in the past it needs to change. We may have to make do with loans to almost transition into next season even if that means no promotion 🤷‍♂️

Brownhill is a quality player but we shouldn’t be making massive layouts on wages.

50k p/w would be a lot less than Vesty, Winks, Ricardo, Soumare and Daka and about the same as Skipp and Hamza. Souttar isn’t far off.

We need a leader and he fits the bill.

Average wage in the championship doesn’t really mean a lot to us as we aren’t an average championship club anymore.

Most of those lads will be a lot less whilst we're in the championship (still very unhealthy wages) as they likely have relegation clauses and subsequently, promotion clauses too.

Already taken that into account

Brownhill is a strange one. 18 goals and a promotion, released and then no new club still. You'd think he would have been snapped up straight the way. If he is asking for silly money then he's a silly boy and not the kind of player you want at the club, another mercenary.

Hes very much after big money

Or maybe we’ve promised him a bumper contract, wage and signing on fee once we’ve got rid of a few including Bilal😂 🤞🏼

This will come down to who blinks first imo.

If a mid-bottom PL side either lose a player or suffer an injury he may well get the sort of salary he’s looking for.

If not, he will have to adjust his demands to get some interest. I wouldn’t want to risk a high salary on a long term deal for a player who’s had 1 good season in the Championship. If we got rid of Winks convinced Brownhill to come here on £40k (ish) I wouldn’t be against it. Any more than that and it’s a huge risk.

Not sure what he's waiting for (MLS? deadline day?) I reckon we have offered him a contract that probably rewards him well on promotion, far more than the Burnley offer I would imagine.

We desperately need goal contributions and are relying on the incredible, and set pieces. We sure as shit can't rely on Ayew and Daka, Skipp, Soumare, Winks...

Need to remember we've significantly reduced our wage bill to allow us to sign players that IMPROVE our starting 11. And considering we're going to lose more of them at the end of the season (likely most of Daka, Ayew, Soumare, Thomas, Winks, Ricardo.) We can afford that risk this season and next.

This is what many on here are completely missing the point on.

Recon he would sign a 2 year contract?

That's not fair, goal contributions last four seasons, despite playing as a 8 and sometimes playing the 6, in a Burnley side.

15

6

24

For comparison, and a fair one, KDH last 4 seasons.

3

4

26

1 (in 13 PL)

There's every reason to believe that Brownhill would get 15 - 25 goal contributions for us, and that's what we would be paying for, as an 8. Probably a classic too good for them championship, not good enough for the PL player, but that's exactly where we're at.

Might be more to do with contract length as much as wage p/w, he'll be looking for 4/5 years you'd imagine

I’d have no problem with us offering him 3 years at 60K p/w (including app fee and g/a) with the OPTION of a 4th year.

It is a bit weird that he’s still clueless though unless it really is a case of him and us waiting for the right moment?

No

So what happens after 2 years when he’s on 60k a week for another 3 years and we aren’t getting parachute payments?

I’d take him at the right price. We desperately need some experience in that midfield. Especially if Winks leaves. The idea of having a team made of academy players is nice, but you’ve got to have some experience mixed in, but the right kind of experience. He knows this league inside out, and is a solid character, to rebuild you still need a solid character in the dressing room.

At the very least you’d like him to be our top earner and captain at the top of the championship or hopefully a middle-ish earner as we travel to Brighton back in the PL after he’s played a major role in our return.

This is the exact sort of deal we should be doing.

Needs wrapping up so he can get up to speed match fitness wise.

Huge wages for someone with no resale value and very patchy output is "the exact sort of deal we should be doing"?

We can end up going too far the other way on the spectrum and be scared to spend any money at all which is not what we want either.

Brownhill's stats are amazing at this level and if we're not paying a transfer fee I'd be happy with £4m -£5m a year on wages. To think we spent £25m Skipp with probably £3m a year wages with an average season at Norwich all to show before! - Codey, Skipp, BDR is the type of nonsense we need to stop, Brownhill would be shrewd signing IMO.

He could be the difference between promotion which is worth a lot lot more obviously.

Well I think it would get him 100k on promotion. He's not turning down Burnley in the PL as their captain unless they only offered him a few years and a joke of a salary. You'd imagine they themselves offered max 50/60k.

If we offered 3+1 the idea is that we get promoted in the next few years, ideally this year, as he's the type of signing that actually gets you promoted.

If it doesn't work out, we've seen Coady go to Wrexham, Ndidi to Besiktas, Justin to Leeds - these guys would all be on 60k or more. His goal contributions are invaluable at this level so two years from now let's say Wrexham after stabilising want to push for PL... WelcomeToWrexham.

If it's true we've offered a contract, the only reason he's not accepted is because he's waiting to exhaust all PL options first and that might go down to deadline day.
