Finnegan Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 1 hour ago, Lambert09 said: That’s the thing, it makes complete sense for us to do it. But we have just created a very unsustainable situation for ourselves. The wage bar is so high for us now that we’re struggling to reverse it and we are just simply above our stature as a club. The contracts we give to even our youth players are supposedly astronomical compared to others and i wouldn’t be surprised if we are still paying more than clubs like brentford. I’m not sure the solution because as you said, this is a top deal and one that we probably need to do if it’s possible. But we just have to know that if we are even competing for him then when that next player who would ordinarily sign for 25k comes along, they will be asking for double to match someone like him. I just hope that the championship wage is reasonable and the prem increase is what’s attracting him and motivating him to get us up Yeah but like I say, we can't just stop signing people entirely because the situation isn't great. Bit by bit we've got to slowly get the overpaid and underperforming players off of both the wage bill and our amortisation considerations and replace them with better. It'll be a gradual process. Obviously if we give Brownhill shit loads of money and a 5 year contract it'd be terrible business but if it's a fairly sensible deal then it's a fairly good one, especially given he's essentially a like-for-like replacement for BEK who we'll make a bit of profit on, is probably on comparable wages and I'm not convinced will actually be better in the Championship. I'd be 100% in agreement with you if this was another horrorshow appointment like Ayew or Reid but I don't think Brownhill is in that league. Probably my only real hesitation is the fact he just isn't staying with Burnley. 2

I thought we’d all accepted because it was longer than it should have been the wage would be reasonable. despicable if true I'm not 100% sure but I like this site as a general rule of thumb. But going off the list from last season, players who've left now have taken around £350,000 a week off our wage bill.... if its correct.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 Brownhill is a tricky one overall. He obviously improves us and personally I wouldn’t see him as a replacement for BEK and more as a box to box player who can arrive late into the box. The tricky side is the finances. I would argue he’s going to want around £60k a week on a 3 year contract, which totals around £9.3m. A player from abroad who could offer similar output to Brownhill is going to cost a minimum of £6m and around £35k a week, across 3 years that costs £11.4m minimum but you run the risk of them not being proven in England. Offering Brownhill a 3 year, 60k contract would work out around £2m cheaper at a minimum. The question is do you want to be stuck with that contract if it doesn’t work out?

If the wage was correct, its less than Coady who we have just moved on, whilst improving our squad by signing him. 3

Filbert Fireworks Posted 2 August 2025 Posted 2 August 2025 It is tricky with the wage bill. He is a player though who in our current situation probably walks into the 11 and improves us. He's proven at championship level just off the back of his best professional championship season so would be hard to say no. A Brownhill type signing offset with a a genuine plan to utilise the likes of the academy, monga, mcateer goes someway to offset the expense and develop players we can sell on for a profit. Tricky situation we're in. Coady off the books though so there's a start. 3
MC Prussian Posted 4 August 2025 Posted 4 August 2025 The clickbait on Social Media is strong with this one. One site claimed he was a "proven goalscorer".

HankMarvin Posted 4 August 2025 Posted 4 August 2025 (edited) He isn’t coming here A Leeds move for the midfielder could be in doubt, as he is being offered a frankly shocking £100,000 a week by MLS side Toronto FC, according to GiveMeSport 15.9m 3 year deal Edited 4 August 2025 by HankMarvin 1
honeybradger Posted 4 August 2025 Posted 4 August 2025 (edited) First championship season where he gets more than 10 goals and now he's suddenly a guaranteed goalscorer at this level and 100% improves us. As a midfielder he is incredibly limited, he's not a strong passer, ball carrier or good defensively. See his stats compared to bouba soumare's: If we sign him we would be fully hanging our hat on his new found goal threat, when there is every possibility that he returns to type and gets 6 goals 3 assists next season if he signs for us whilst offering very little in the middle of the park. Burnley know that he's nowhere near good enough for them long term, that's why they've let him leave. If we sign him on high wages at 29 this has all the hallmarks of yet another Rudkin disaster signing. Remember the Coady, Winks and BCDR signings were all touted as 'reasonable' on here at the time and look how they ended up. Edited 4 August 2025 by honeybradger 4

FoxinNotts Posted 4 August 2025 Posted 4 August 2025 He won't come here. He'll have more lucrative contracts offered from elsewhere. Move on. Nothing to see here
Sankey93 Posted 5 August 2025 Posted 5 August 2025 Strange he’s not signed for anyone yet, is he waiting for us to get rid so he can sign 👀
FoxFossil Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 Rudkins lost the Fax machine manual, looking for 'how to switch on'.

MaidstoneFox Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 I'd rather we left this one alone, as he probably wants a 4 year contract. We have enough players in their late 20s/30s, I'd rather we invested in someone younger for a few million and much lower wages. 3

Hopefully our dominoes are super glued to Dufkin’s desk. Another Harry Winks???
James_lcfc Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 £65k/week on a 5 year deal sounds good. Then listen to him talk about how he had offers from PL teams and aboard, but it was an easy decision once he heard of Leicester's interest.
LFEFox23 Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 (edited) As much as I think he would be a good signing for us, we've been here before (High Wages / five year deal) so probably best to stay clear. Edited 6 August 2025 by LFEFox23 2
ronnup Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 Really want West Ham to fail. And Everton. Going to need 5 relegated next season please
