How much is Josh Brownhill earning at Burnley as Leicester and Wolves linked?

Using capology, Football League World look at how much Josh Brownhill earns at Burnley with Wolves and Leicester City interested.

Burnley midfielder, Josh Brownhill, is a transfer target for Wolves and Leicester City this January window.

Brownhill’s career has been mainly spent in the EFL. He left Man United’s academy in 2012, joining Preston, where he would play 64 games.

After moving to Bristol City and playing 161 games for the club, he joined Burnley in 2020. He’s now a pivotal part of Vincent Kompany’s side, captaining the Clarets in the Premier League this season.

Despite being a crucial part of the Burnley set up, he might find himself with a new club come the end of January.

Over the weekend, news broke that Wolvesand Leicester City are interested in signing the midfielder.

Brownhill’s Burnley are currently struggling in their return to the Premier League, looking a contender for relegation in early December.

In comparison, Wolves have found some form of late and are well on their way to safety. Leicester are flying in the Championship and look set to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

A move to either of these two clubs would be enticing to Brownhill, who will be keen to make sure he’s playing Premier League football next season.

The Mirror reported Wolves would part way with £7 million to sign Brownhill, but how much will his wages cost? Using Capology, we’ve looked at the estimated wages of Brownhill at Burnley and how this compares to current Wolves and Leicester City players.

Brownhill signed his deal on the 30th January 2020 and his deal is rumoured to be up next summer. This might sway Burnley to sell up to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old is on an estimated £45,000 per week, which is £2,340,000 per year, making him the second-highest earner at the club.

If Wolves or Leicester City are to sign Brownhill they should expect to be paying around that amount, if not more, each week.

If we compare Brownhill’s wage at Burnley (£45,000) to other players at Wolves, he’s some way off the top earners.

Capology estimates that Spaniard Pablo Sarabia is Wolves' top earner, earning a reported £90,000 per week. Sarabia earns double that of Brownhill at Burnley, suggesting wages shouldn’t be an issue for Wolves.

Brownhill would be earning the same as Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina if he stayed on the same wage. The pair are on an estimated £45,000 per week as well, making up 4.52% of Wolves’ wages.

Compared to Leicester City’s wages, Brownhill is even further off the top earner. Long-term striker Jamie Vardy is on an estimated £140,000 per week, which is extremely high for a Championship player.

Leicester have 11 players earning over a reported £50,000 a week. This suggests wages shouldn’t be an issue for the Foxes either if they do try to sign Brownhill.

He is the Ndidi 'busy dual no8' role.

Regardless of if Ndidi leaves we will need reinforcement here as ndidi will be off for the month of Jan with Abdul, Daka and Kel.

I sincerely hope this ship has sailed.  If we are promoted, we can do better than this.

Very good player at this level. However, if the gap is equal or more and we are looking just as good for promotion in January, you’d like to think we would look at targets who would be more likely to make the step up.

I think he'd be a good addition for like a 6 month loan or something.

Pretty sure he was championship player of the season last year while playing as an 8. Would much rather someone like him come off the bench than Casadei.

Not good enough for Burnley in the prem so he won't be good enough for us, long term. Pass

Eh? He's made 2 sub appearance in the league and played 85+ mins in their other 14 league games. Doesn't suggest he's not good enough for them.

On the right deal I think he'd be a tidy addition to the squad. I wouldn't break the bank for him or offer him whatever he wants, but if he'd be willing to come and the deal was right for us then he'd be a solid option in one of the 2 8 positions.

Leicester City have offered a contract to Josh Brownhill after he confirmed his Burnley exit, according to FourFourTwo.

Leicester City come into the 2025/26 campaign with a potential points deduction still lurking over them. LCFC have struggled with financial issues in recent years amid their bounces between the Premier League and Championship, leading to strong discontent from the fans toward the board.

Hes almost 30 years old. He left Burnley because they werent offering him the contract he wanted. Almost a guarentee we will be offering him a ridiculous contract for a player who isnt Prem level and who we wont be able to shift in a season or two

We won’t be in the prem for a while so shouldn’t be a problem

You say that but everyone was doom and gloom last time we got relegated. Get a half decent striker in and we’ve got a chance of doing well

Before I say all of this I'll caveat by saying he's clearly pretty good and plugs what is a big gap in our team currently in that virtually none of the midfielders ever score. Winks, Skipp, Ndidi and Soumare have a combined 20 career goals. Brownhill got 18 last season alone and was a big part in Burnley's promotion.

But I am scared. It's all very short-term thinking again. The Winks and Coady signings to me were both failures in the end - we paid a Premier League level fee and gave them both Premier League level contracts. Both of them therefore should be held to a standard of being above the Championship and both of them totally flunked it last season for us.

Brownhill I fear is very similar. 29 years old and never really made much of an impact at PL level. He would be leaving a club who have just gone up to the Premier League and coming here - the only reason would be similar to why Coady came here instead of to Luton, Sheffield United etc.. - we would be paying over the odds.

I can see it happening and I can see him being good for us in the Championship, but beyond that is my fear. If we were to pay him a PL level contract, we should be demanding a PL level output and nobody can seriously argue against this.

To be fair did he not score like 18 goals in champshionshop and provide 6 more. Nothing like winks or skipp to be fair

I stand corrected -  He must have been used differently last season based on those numbers.  Previous seasons were nothing like as prolific

I don't see anything wrong with this. Better than Skipp, can score goals from midfield and is a leader. Who cares if he isn't premier league level - we are a championship club!

We can’t afford to sell skipp annd we can’t afford to have expensive players sat around. Unless we have a loan option planned for him.

Couldn't agree more.  It's not the signing itself it is the pattern of behaviour.  It would be a signing that confirms what we already strongly suspect.  We've learnt nothing.

The alarm bells are ringing because he wants a new challenge and project.  Surely that means Europe, maybe joining Celtic or Rangers.  If he joins us it will be purely because we've offered generous terms not because he is remotely interested in another slog in the championship.

The only way I'd accept this is if Marti is going to really go hard playing youth, we clear out loads of ageing dross (haha!) and we see Brownhill as short term goals and experience whilst academy players grow into their roles.

Our midfield looks so weak at the minute.

on the basis the contract offered isn’t ridiculous… I think this imwoukd be a good signing.

We need a CM who scores goals. Will provide leadership too.

If we can sell Ndidi and Soumare, Brownhill in will be a good swap.
