Roma Away

Recommended Posts

No disorder at all as I understand it with rival fans. The city is too big and our numbers were too large where collecting. Unlike some of the other trips away where there were attempted ambushes (Rennes in particular bad for this). It kicked off numerous times with the coppers in the ground.

We were subject to not far off a military operation though. A meeting point for coaches to get into the stadium. Then after the game (after 90 minutes) buses back to Termini and having to walk through Rome as they had purposely cancelled public transport.

Those that did make their own way to the Olimpico had a very awkward walk over the bridge where their ultras like to collect.

I had no trouble in Rome itself before and after the game we caught one of the special buses to the ground. There were problems in the ground mainly with heavy handed police actions. We got kept in the ground after for about 1 1/2 hours. The Roma fans next to the away fans were twats they could get away with throwing firecrackers etc no problem but Leicester fans couldn't. One other thing just be glad you're not playing Napoli.

No trouble in the city itself, most people you come across are tourists anyway.

As others have said, there were big problems inside the ground with the Police and Roma fans constantly throwing pyro into our end.

Despite us losing it was a relatively painless away compared to others we experienced during that campaign.

It’s a great city, have a great time if you go over.

I went to see a Europa League game in the home end at the Olimpico last year, I don't want to imagine how it must feel as an away fan going across that bridge!

Didn't see any fan on fan trouble, at all, in Rome. We made our own way there, and we obviously kept our heads down, but it was all fine.

The only issue we did see was the riot police in our away section swinging their batons at times.

As others said, Naples was a different story!

Morning people, Brighton fan here.  Congratulations on your victory last night at the shoebox, and hopefully we'll join you after tonight.  Anyway, I'm on here because we play Roma away next week - exciting times.  However, I see you got 5,000 tickets which is the full away pen allocation but above the 3,500 minimum according to UEFA rules.

So was there widespread disorder in Rome that day?  I only ask because we've only been given 3,500 on police advice which is a pain in the arse for those of us who are on the points border for qualifying for a ticket.  Cheers.

Oh and whilst I'm here - any excuse for re-posting this absolute classic:

i watched this loads at the time, never realised the guy on the moped behind runs into him too ahahahhahah

I chose to get the organised coaches that were laid on for us from the Villa Borghese park (as per the one in the infamous clip). Not sure if they have been organised for your fans?

They were fine. It meant getting to the stadium a good two hours before ko, which is not my usual style, but to be honest, mixing, chatting, singing and drinking with fans on the concourse the time soon passed. About four different checkpoints before you can get into stadium (passports/tickets/searches) which felt a bit draconian, but just have to comply and there's no issues.

As other have mentioned, bit of trouble at the end in the ground, but nothing major really.

Quite late by the time you're bussed back to Termini station.

I made a 4-day break of it because I'd never been to Rome, and had a good time.

Enjoy! You never know when you might be able to go on these European jaunts again.

I have to say the trip to Rome was one of the best, despite the result.

...and made even more enjoyable by SeaninRome who organised a City Tour, a Stadium tour and a private transfer with police escort from the Vatican directly into the stadium. Brilliant!!

I inadvertently booked my Uber to the training ground rather than the stadium at Rennes and had a nervous walk to the ground on my own apart from a local who was quite understanding of my predicament (I speak French at very much a novice level).

Absolutely superb few days! As many have said we took big numbers so didn’t see any issues outside the ground at pubs etc, plus you’ll have half the city (Lazio fans) rooting for you!

We had a brilliant time, the coach journey to the ground was my highlight, hilarious scenes with mopeds in pursuit and Italian riot vans from the 80’s swerving to try and keep them at bay.

In the ground, you will get pelted with flares, smoke bombs, lighters, coins etc, it’s Italian culture, it will happen and the police won’t attempt to stop it so it will go on all game, which funnily enough made it that more enjoyable. Would have been great if we had anything to shout about in the actual game itself!

A bit like us, 100% go if you can as you never know when you’ll next be in a European campaign and can never take anything for granted. Some amazing memories from Rome and our other European trips over the years 👍🏻👍🏻

Even though we had allocated seats it was very much sit where you want.

The Roma thugs on the left were hurling missles etc. The roma fans on the right just taunted us.

Madrid away in the 90's was a bit tasty as well. We had massive chunks of ice thrown up at us from the section below - God knows where they got those from!

And being held in a fenced compound for hours before the match with machine gun totting police was a laugh as well...

You did well. I found them the worst of the hosts. I know of at least two set of City fans ambushed/barracked into a pub with them throwing stuff

i can see me. i had a roma top on underneath (due to being my team from the football italia days) as i was meant to be with their fans on that side (got a ticket just before the start of the game) confused the **** out of the people doing throat slitting gestures when i walked up to the plexiglass and showed...5 mins later they were back on song though lmao
