Stating the obvious but maybe any from this handful of large local companies...simply don't want to do it?

There were quite persistent rumours that Walkers/Pepsico were in the running.

Honestly take away the work of Nigel Pearson, Shakespeare and Walsh and the ripples effect from their work that come after - these owners have been no better than all the absolute shit you see at the likes of Blackburn, Derby, Coventry etc.

You are an ostrich

were 100% in the running but when it went to tender they lost out. I don't know how much by but what i was told it wasn't by a lot.

Imagine one of the worlds biggest companies offering you a decent deal and you turn it down for a front of one of the dodgiest betting companies about

Again, it's incredibly short-sighted.

Having Walkers on the shirt taps into nostalgia and shows a connection between club and community.

The logo can go on every single shirt regardless of age and gender and probably sells like hot cakes.

All spanked away for a hypothetical few extra quid.

Even putting that aside, with it being such a big brand, there's loads of long term potential for the sum to increase. On top of that, as strange as it sounds with them sponsoring us and not the other way around, it would also massively increase our exposure if it was a holistic/cohesive sponsorship.

Unless we're talking several million difference, it's so stupid.

This is us in a nutshell though isn't it? Nothing seems to be leading to a long term vision or plan for the club

Imagine the amount of people that would of brought a shirt on the nostalgia aspect along. I'd definitely of considered it.

exactly, they could have even had 3 different Pepsi brands on there.

Walkers Home

Starbucks Away

Gatorade 3rd

or something like that - but nope they chose BC GAME!

If we'd ever qualified for Europe again (stop laughing,) we could have had Lay's on the shirt for foreign TV audiences.

If they'd made a green shirt with yellow pinstripes, the Adidas trefoil, the running fox and the Walker's logo...

Could you imagine?

It could be even worse, how much of the sponsorship money have we had?

We don’t know if the 1st years payment has been paid or if it was due at the end of the season.

Could have a massive impact on PSR

KP could just match the amount and it be classed as fair market value.

And it could have been a long-term deal over several years. PepsiCo's product portfolio is such that even a clamp down on junk food advertising needn't pose a problem given the sheer diversity of their output.

It wasn't it was less than 500k from what we were told.

It certainly looking like we wont have BC Game next year so will be interesting to see if they go back to the ones that were outbid with their tails between their legs

That's exactly it.

Even if BC.GAME were a straight and above board betting company offering £10m a year, the most the club's getting out of it is £20m due to the ban on gambling sponsorship from 26-27. And they're not straight and above board, nor do they have the capacity or reliability to offer a bumper deal. After that, goodness only knows what our sponsorship arrangements could be.

Signing a £6m a year deal with PepsiCo over 4 years brings more money in over a longer period and, crucially, can be easily renewed in 2028 to offer greater financial stability. This is a world renowned food and drink conglomerate valued in the tens of billions with products known all over the world. Such a tie-up could easily have been beneficial to the club.

In fairness, there will be ethical concerns with pretty much any business rich enough to sponsor a Premier League club. The days of being sponsored by the local jewellers or hardware store are, sadly, long-gone.

A combination of hard-nosed pragmatism and avoiding those businesses or industries that could spell PR disaster for your fanbase is about as ethical as you can get.

Trying to find a warm and fluffy person with that amount of money is like trying to set the nativity at the City Ground. You're about as likely to find three wise men and a virgin there as you are to find an ethical billionaire.
