Yeah. Though energy generation rather than transportation is by far the biggest issue in that regard.

Because the public transport is subsidised, the subsidiary is reducing. Polluters as you name them, I.e lorries, van, cars, etc are not subsidised.

Edit: If (heaven forbid) Trump wins, then I hope Starmer has the courage to drop the diplomatic front from time to time when the two meet and be absolutely candid about what a great many people in the developed world think of him. I hope that Trump does the same to 2 Tier!!

As a working person, I don't think the budget is that bad tbh. The country's ****ed, things need to change and whilst I personally would have gone further with a wealth tax amongst other things, I'm overall happy with today's budget 3

There may not be a cap pencilled in, but they had the choice whether to keep it or not. People that don't work already get cheaper or free bus fares, so it only effect those that work. The above inflation increase in train fares are likewise. I doubt that will be to pay for infrastructure upgrades, but just for salaries. As far as im aware, much of the northern infrastructure improvements have been planned for a while and Labour are agreeing to see those through.

Because I don’t view life through the lens of “it’s not as rubbish as it was so it must be better”. This budget is an economic tragedy and will affect everyone posting on this forum negatively - whether you chose to believe this or not is up to you. The way the tories ran the country during Covid was a joke, Boris is a joke, Truss is an ever bigger joke. Who is arguing with that? Doesn’t mean you can’t now comment on a budget where a government is trying to tax their way out of it - and blatantly lie through their teeth during the election process, this is what Labour does and it will all unfold over the current term. They aren’t well supported and the popularity nosedive has been devastating since July.

I always find it crazy how reactionary people get at budget’s as surely proof will be in the pudding in several years time at the earliest? The hysterical reaction from those on the right is probably understandable because it goes against their political instincts, that’s fine. I was similar with massive cuts of public services. Our public services are absolutely wrecked, so personally I don’t think it’s a bad thing that we seem to be prioritising funding them again. Hopefully with Streeting’s NHS reforms in the long run, we can cut the inefficiencies in our health and social care services and the money can be used far more effectively. One thing I do find odious outside of political/ideological standpoints, is that despite promising the money, Sunak and Hunt hadn’t actually budgeted for the post masters/infected blood payouts. That’s disgusting imo. 6

I actually think most people would be happy to pay more tax for an increase in quality of public services, I would, and this won't cause the nose dive you suggest. 8 1

When did the OBR say that?! How have I completely missed that bombshell, what context? That's huge news if so, shatters the whole pre-messaging tbf. Wonder what reaction this will have on Gilts.. 7
