Went well I see!! Made no impact whatsoever. 2 losses from 2 games. No goals scored. Only opted to play for the Republic of Ireland to better his career. Knowing he’d never be good enough for an England call up! 😂😂

Almost sounds like jealousy…

What Irish media said about Kasey McAteer’s display as Leicester City summer target sinks Ireland
Wed 11 September 2024 10:00
Fraser Spinney
Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer was boosted by a call-up to the Ireland senior team for the first time this international break.

Having been eligible for England, Northern Ireland and Ireland, Kasey McAteer recently declared for Ireland and was rewarded with his first senior international call-up for the September fixtures.

Leicester City will be pleased to see McAteer gain international recognition with Steve Cooper bringing the 22-year-old on late in all three Premier League games so far.

It is a good sign for McAteer’s international prospects that he made new manager Heimir Hallgrímsson’s first squad and the Leicester winger made his debut off the bench in the 2-0 Nations League defeat to England at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

He was again brought off the bench as Ireland lost by the same scoreline against Greece on Tuesday night but can hold his head high after making an impact.

Irish media impressed by Leicester City’s Kasey McAteer in Greece cameo
The defeat to Greece meant Ireland have won just two of their last 12 fixtures, with one of those victories coming against Gibraltar.

Despite the poor state of the national team, McAteer showed that there is some hope for the future after replacing Jason Knight in the 74th-minute in Dublin on Tuesday night.

Irish media were certainly left optimistic by McAteer’s showing, with both the Irish Mirror and sport outlet Balls rating his display a six out of ten despite playing just 16 minutes.

Balls commented on McAteer’s performance, saying: “Did well to engineer Will Smallbone’s guilt-edged chance near the end. A rare bright spark for Ireland in the closing phases.”

RTE went one better, scoring McAteer a seven, commenting: “Replaced Knight and took up station around the left wing as Ireland went in search of a much-needed equaliser.

“Lovely reverse pass played Brady in to set up Smallbone but the goal didn’t follow. Then helped set up Robinson’s 84th-minute chance.”

What a weird thing to post...

Goes in line with what a number of posters seem to post at the moment taking aim at anyone and everything connected with the club. The Leicester City element of this forum has become somewhat childish and the least enjoyable element of the site.

Kasey McAteer has retained his place in the Republic of Ireland squad for their Nations League fixtures against Finland and Greece.

Danny Ward (Wales), Wout Faes (Belgium), Mads Hermansen, Jannik Vestergaard, Victor Kristiansen (all Denmark), and Caleb Okoli (Italy) have also received call-ups.

Away from Europe, Abdul Fatawu and Jordan Ayew have been called up for Ghana while Wilfred Ndidi and Bilal El Khannouss are in the Nigeria and Morocco senior squads.

Steve McClaren has also named Bobby De Cordova Reid in his Jamaica squad, but there was no place for Will Alves or Michael Golding in the England youth sides.

Very happy for Buonanotte but really hope he avoids injury!

Given the time he'll get back to Leicester though after playing in Argentina on Weds morning I doubt he starts against Saints...

Faes' Belgium Fight Back For A Point In Italy

LCFC Men

Wout Faes was involved in a stirring comeback as Belgium recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Italy at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening.

- Wout Faes featured for Belgium in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Italy
- Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu were also involved in a stalemate for Ghana
- Facundo Buonanotte will be hoping to appear for Argentina later on Thursday

Making his 22nd appearance for the Red Devils in Rome, Faes was in the starting XI for his country, with Leicester City team-mate Caleb Okoli among the unused substitutes for Azzurri.

Belgium found themselves 2-0 behind after just 24 minutes, through goals from Andrea Cambiaso and Mateo Retegui. Following Lorenzo Pellegrini's red card, matters flipped in their favour, though, setting the scene for a comeback.

Maxim De Cuyper got one back for the visitors in UEFA Nations League action, before Leandro Trossard hit a 61st-minute equaliser. Although holding a man advantage, Belgium couldn't find a winner, leaving them third in League A Group 2.

Elsewhere, there was also international action for Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu earlier on. Both starring for Ghana in a 0-0 AFCON qualifying draw with Sudan, Ayew was in the line-up from the off, with Fatawu emerging from the bench.

That point leaves the Black Stars second in Group I, putting them in a good place to reach the finals.

Later in the day, meanwhile, Facundo Buonanotte could earn his third cap for Argentina at Venezuela (10pm BST kick-off). The World Cup and Copa América champions are top of the South American qualification pool for the 2026 World Cup.

Pretty unfortunate to be fair.

Yeah deflected off his grounded hand  as it was redirected away from the goal by his legs.

Narrow Spain Defeat For Danish Foxes
Internationals

Victor Kristiansen and Jannik Vestergaard played for Denmark in a close encounter with Spain, with the European champions coming out on top late on.
- Victor Kristiansen and Jannik Vestergaard played the full game in Denmark's 1-0 loss to Spain
- Mads Hermansen was an unused substitute at Enrique Roca de Murcia
- Bilal El Khannouss made a second half appearance in Morocco's convincing 5-0 win over the Central African Republic

Three Leicester City players, in the form of Kristiansen, Vestergaard and Mads Hermansen faced tough competition in the third group stage game of the UEFA Nations League, as they looked to continue their 100 per cent start to life in League A Group 4.

Wins against Switzerland and Serbia had got them going, but Saturday evening brought a different type of challenge in the form of a Spanish side who had four points from of a possible six already collected.

The two Leicester defenders were named in the starting XI, with Hermansen on the bench, and managed to keep out the hosts in Murcia until the final 10 minutes of the game, when Spain's persistence paid off; Martin Zubimendi scoring the decisive goal.

Unable to hang on to what would've been an impressive clean sheet, Denmark drop to second in the standings but have the chance to get back to winning ways when they face bottom-placed Switzerland on Tuesday evening at Kybunpark with a 7:45pm kick-off.

Jannik Vestergaard
Denmark have six points from three games after defeat to Spain.

The only other Fox to feature on Saturday's international stage was summer signing Bilal El Khannouss, who was a second half substitute in Morocco's emphatic 5-0 win over the Central African Republic.

Azzedine Ounahi scored a first-half brace as the hosts went into the break with a healthy four-goal lead, before El Khannouss replaced Eliesse Ben Seghir at Honneur Stadium to see out a comfortable victory in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification stage.

Saturday's win for the 14th-placed country in the FIFA rankings ensures Morocco keep their winning streak after three games, as they remain top of Group B; five points ahead of second-placed Gabon. The return fixture against the Central African Republic comes on Tuesday evening with an 8pm kick-off.

The weekend's action for City's players concludes with Greece vs. Ireland on Sunday evening (7:45pm kick-off), when Kasey McAteer has the chance to stop the Greek's momentum after beating England at Wembley Stadium.

Jannik solid as a rock in a Denmark defense severely hampered by injuries. Had to play a RB as CB. I understand the need for speed in some games but in a low block Jannik is a very good player.

VK faced Yamal and lost him on one occasion, but he played well defensively otherwise.
