Why do sports' governing bodies insist on hosting major tournaments in USA?

The T20 World Cup was played in front of sparse crowds other than the games in the Caribbean and England's game in the WXV1 last night was played in a huge stadium with about 1,000 spectators. It doesn't raise awareness, they're not interested in any team sports other than the ones they monopolise.

Just like the saudi's, the US is where the serious money is.  Both want to monopolize sport, and each year get closer.  That's why they are so interested in owning clubs.

Clearly they’re not doing a good enough job of raising awareness if you think BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia is in the United States.

Damn it, I knew last night's game was in Canada but I thought it was a dual hosting. Feel a right burke now. 😂

It’s a 300m+ population with disposable income who love sport. Of course every sport is going to want to invest there. Look at how well the premier league have invested there, and more recently f1. Empty crowds at this stage mean nothing. You have to put the hard miles in before you get a return

I'm currently in Florida, I've spent the last 10 or so days trucking round Universal and Disney.

Obviously not everyone I see is American but one thing that's struck me is there's way more football shirts here than any of their sports. Even MLS teams, it's not all just Europeans and South Americans (although there are a shit tone of Argies here, I'd hazard a guess they're one of the biggest nationalities in the park other than septics.)

The stadiums will be rammed for the World Cup. Especially in the south of the US.

Yep there’s scheduled to be 104 games at the next World Cup and nearly all of the stadiums can hold over 60,000. I reckon there’ll be 6-7 million tickets sold which is mental for any event. Will be the most attended sports event in history.

Yep  with such a diverse population practically every stadium would be full even without fans travelling from other countries. Americans are sports mad and have the income and population to fill any stadium for any sport.  Some sports like cricket/rugby will take time but I remember people saying the MLS would never take off...:D

Dollar. Which is more than valid.

However at times I think it's misplaced.

Soccer works well as the MLS - it's worked out the formula - creating something partisan, pride in your city, put some smaller cities without Big 4 franchises in it too. This attracts a younger crowd and a community based crowd. When they host the big teams, they end up targeting a different type of fan. Which will work for the World Cup but something like the World Club Cup (lesser European teams/non-North & South America teams) games will be a really hard sell

Cricket will be incredibly hard to take off outside of the Asian teams hosting games there.

Rugby I simply can't see working. There is too much of a comparison in the US which is incredibly strong in all areas (NFL/NCAA Football)

Yeah having the rugby World Cup there in 2031 is stupid especially when you could have it in actually rugby mad countries that are developing like Italy, Spain or Argentina.

Both. Velocicoaster twice, Hagrid once.

Both brilliant in different ways. Velocicoaster might be the best ride I've ever been on, it's so smooth.

Agreed - my two favourites by a mile. The Hogwarts castle wasn’t nail biting but really good how they do it. Glad you enjoyed it, Florida is just quality….apart from the food!

I can't get over the fact the Americans laugh at the food in the UK.

Theirs is absolutely ****ing abysmal. The amount of sugar added to everything is horrific and nothing here is fresh, it's all processed shit.

I'm sure if you know where to look they have nice restaurants but day to day food here is absolute toxin.

Even the “restaurants” are overpriced and just slightly less processed sh!t. I think the best meal we had was McDonald’s or Taco Bell and that’s saying something.

We’re all of product of our upbringing in terms of tastes, and there’s a lot of garbage food here. But ten days in Florida theme parks will make you question more about our country than just the food.

That being said, I will NEVER turn my nose up at British food. I specifically visit one nearby store over here to buy steak and ale pies and specialty teas all winter long. Rather eat British food year round than step foot in Florida ever again.
