I mean, few comments about failures, but not being funny, how many clubs outside the top 6 have produced 5 Premier League players in the last 7/8 years?

Barnes, Choudhury, KDH, Thomas, McAteer… Stolarczyk and Nelson also looking good prospects, with the enigmas of Alves and Braybrooke, too.

Might not be elite level/world class players, but they’ve had/will have better careers than most academy players. I’d say we have a pretty decent hit rate for a club our size.

Not sure about for a club our size. No other club has better facilities than us and being the size we are should perhaps give better opportunities for decent prospects to break through.

Ashley Lyt

17y/o who we signed in 2001 for £150,000 potentially rising to £250,000 depending on appearances from Scarborough. Not exactly chump change back then.

Apparently ended up back at Scarborough before disappearing into the ether.

His name has to be the most random announcement I've heard on the PA. No one knew who he was. Can't remember what game it was he was on the bench but that just triggered a weird memory.

Ashley Chambers came into a pub I worked at circa 2010 with his other half and kid, would've been under Sousa

I said "they need you out on the pitch mate!"

He said "you're telling me mate!"

An unforgettable celeb interaction, they say never meet your heroes

Least he got on for 1 minute when we needed a goal to avoid relegation to League One for the first time in our history.

We have one of the biggest catchment areas in English Football and for the most part of the decade have been the only premier league club on the M1 corridor between London and Newcastle

Id say we’ve done ok nothing more

Feel our scouting in the county is shocking the amount of raw talent there is in our catchment is as good 95% of the country yet we seem to bring through such shit at times, you cannot tell me Thomas and Choudhury are the best talent the county has to offer

Every club has them.

I think we’ve done okay. Not every player is going to hit the very top level in football. When you bear in mind that your average League 2 player is closer to Messi in terms of ability, than most will be to that League 2 player.

Football at the top level just isn’t about technique. It requires commitment off the field, diet, mental strength, physical growth etc, plus injuries play a part. You then also need a little bit of luck.

if you think the Premier League is potentially the best league in the world (debatable), however it’ll have maybe 480 players registered across all team. Even if you push that out across the top 4 leagues, you’re still only looking at 2,000 people.

To then claim we should be producing home grown talent, which is captured within a given window of miles from the football club and expect them to be within the top 2,000 players in the world is maybe a tough ask.

People develop differently.

When you think we’ve had Nelson, KDH, Barnes, Nyoni, Chillwell, Knight, Bassey, Choudhury, Porter, Gradel, Stearman, Mcateer, Mattock, Schluup, Kipre, Thomas, Elliott Moore, Liam Moore, Pascanu, Elder, Iversen, Marcal, Norburn, Cluscus, King, Tomlin, Stolarczyk, O’Grady, Heskey, Joachim, Hoult, Piper, Stewart, Oakes, Heath, Ashton, Petrescu, Weselowski etc etc

I’ll reserve judgement on Braybooke, Alves and Popov until they’ve played more.

You would build a steady team from the ones still playing.

Basic 4-4-2 of

Stolarczyk

Chilwell

Bassey

Nelson

Knight

KDH

Choudhury

McAteer

Barnes

Gradel

Schlupp - Best I could think of as a 9!

Bench of Iversen, Kipre, Pascanu, Moore, Thomas, Elder, Marcal, Alves, Braybooke, Popov

Outside of the big clubs, I don’t think that’s bad.

McMahon was pretty well thought of wasn't he about 25 years a go? Not sure what he did for his career but he made one or two first team appearances.
