Silebyfox_89 Posted 25 May Posted 25 May If he did leave I'd prefer him to go somewhere like dortmund for his development.

I actually said Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago and got laughed at… but just for clarification, I wasn’t meaning as a nailed on starter, it’s just German teams seem to know how to develop a British talent quite well! 2

The bottom half of the league is a pretty low standard. Most are championship level, so it allows players to flourish and develop. if you’re part of a good team and the opposition is weak you are able to practice a perfect game. In England there’s just more competitive balance on the whole which makes it harder for someone learning a trade. I don’t think a youngster does well in the lower end clubs in Germany. That’s my take on it anyway. 1

If it's by start of June though, even better. Good luck reaching out to anyone at the club before June. I expect it's a ghost town there atm He's signed a pre-contract agreement with us but I don't think a 16 year old can be held to that if another club want to come in and sign him still before he actually signs a pro deal with us. As I understand it, it's more of a statement of intent to sign here that will, at best, push up the compo we get? The bit I don't quite know is what happens if nobody has offered him anything by the time his birthday comes around. Does what he signed last year automatically become a professional contract if nothing else has happened before that? No idea. We'll get more for Monga than we did Nyoni because the fact we've had him on a pre contract deal and we've been using him as a member of the first team squad will influence the figure. But it'll still be horrendously low because the compensation fees always are. As a 17 year old on a professional contract, a player of his hype and reputation easily goes for north of 10m if not double that. We'll be lucky to get 2.5m. 1

Stadt Posted 28 May Posted 28 May I think Monga's lack of pace means he's just not quite as exciting as most promising young wingers. In terms of playing style Sancho is the closest equivalent and he;s never been an edge-of-your-seat player either. 1

He isn’t lightning fast but I wouldn’t say he is slow or lacking pace He can certainly take a touch and then from standing get around / past a player and get away from them 1

He beats players with strength, quick feet and good balance more foehn than anything else. He's certainly not slow but for a winger he is lacking pace 2
Popular Post Finnegan Posted 28 May Popular Post Posted 28 May I've said since I first saw him that he lacks pace. However, he's 16. Not everyone develops like Bale, Rooney, Owen or Walcott. You don't really know what his body is going to do in the next two or three years. Could gain a fair bit in strength and pace still. I think he looks very much like a child when he's playing and that's fine because he is. 5
SafewayFox Posted 28 May Posted 28 May I’ve said numerous times about Monga’s lack of pace. He’s definitely more in the mould of Stephy rather than Abdul from a pace perspective. Monga’s ceiling is still a mystery but one thing for sure, he will be playing at a higher league level than us for the majority of his career. 1

Definitely love to see him chat on the pod. Monga shows flashes of big potential but like Heskey we won’t see his best years in a Leicester shirt. 1

Running fast and running fast with the ball at your feet are two different things, in the case of Bale and Rooney that's technical ability. Owen had a low center of gravity and was 18 when he made his debut, but still, light years ahead of where Monga is. Monga is raw as you've said. But I think it's clear to see he's not going to be quite as good as some people like to think he's going to be. Certainly doesn't deserve to even be mentioned in company like that. Apart from Walcott maybe if he's lucky.

Which is fairly common when you are so good at dribbling with the ball but to reach the top, hes going to need to master everything and not skip it because he has the ability. Its the difference from becoming a Kvaratskhelia or a Madueke Edited 28 May by Lambert09
coolhandfox Posted 29 May Posted 29 May With regard to pace, pretty sure its been said he see himself more as a 10 than a winger. If that the case pace isn't as important. 1
MPH Posted 29 May Posted 29 May I’d say he’s a genuine winger rather than to the left of a front 3.. in which case, I see it as more important that he can take people on, get past them and get a cross into the box, all of which he can do. He might not be able to fully run onto a ball that’s split 2 CBs and is coming over his head, but most wingers don’t do that anyway.
JimJams Posted 29 May Posted 29 May Hes plenty fast enough for a player who won't rely on pace. Look at some of the top wingers/forwards with good close control. Bernardo and Cherki aren't exactly rapid. Change of direction is as or more important. Hazard used to kill defenders from a standing start by shifting his body one way then the other. 3

I completely agree about pace not being the deciding factor, you named some very special players though. For every Hazard, there are 4/5 (if not many more) less technically blessed professionals but they’ve made the cut due to their athleticism.
BKLFox Posted 30 May Posted 30 May Ironically just yesterday the great Pirlo stated the games changed again and players / teams need / want pace. The kids got time on his side and a lot of growing up to do
