From what i hear from mates who are Arsenal fans, a lot will pin on Nwanieri moving out on loan as to how much senior game time Monga will get, a loan back was an option, but from what they could gather Monga's camp was keen on getting away from us - think of that what we will!

Either way the kid is going to be playing for them this coming season

The difference between Monga when he first got into the side and the longer the season went on was night and day.

Rotten environment and awful place for any youngster to play

they’ve been sticking a 16 y o on the RW when necessary.  Monga would have every chance there if he’s good eneough. Yes, they’ll buy someone older who is amazing on the left but if Monga excels then they’ll promote him. plenty of games available for a club that is playing in so many comps.  As a top ten global club, Arsenal would be thinking about the possibility of downan and Monga as their two wide players within two/three years.

Don't get me wrong & good luck to the kid although you can see Dowman has something more about him which Monga doesn't.
I just think the timing might just go against him if they are willing to sell both those others this summer they will be getting younger versions of them that can slot in straight away which could then cause a problem for him for the next 5 or so years if they happen to take off.

We can use Liverpool as an example of why it could be a problem for Monga if Arsenal go the same route. Liverpool have just signed 22yr old Victor Munoz & pushing to sign 19yr old Diomande (which combined will push close to €130m) these are starters & will be at Liverpool for the next 6+yrs

I fear Arsenal are doing the usual here's a kid showing promise lets get him cheap & sell him on with our academy 'tax' added on.

But again good luck to him & great if he makes it at Arsenal.

If and when he goes there and immediately looks better, do not be surprised. He was stifled here and got worse the longer the season went on, the talent is clearly there and he's still probably 2-3 years ahead of most gifted players.

I reckon he immediately gets that bit of an attitude you need to become a top player. He looks a bit shy here but I reckon he comes out of his shell at Arsenal.

Opening bid rejected, according to BBC.

To be clear, it's according to the Telegraph, who obviously Percy and McGrath write for. It's not written by them, it's written by their chief writer but I'd be surprised if it's just simply made up. Seems a weird rumour to just fabricate for clicks.

So if we're saying it's valid then I'm actually quite positively encouraged by the fact they've had to bid and we've been able to reject it. Obviously he's getting sold and obviously so we aren't in a strong selling position but it's nice to see some sort of clarification that they can't just take him and force a tribunal fee?

Opening bid rejected but a deal expected to be agreed.

Wonder how much it'll be. I can't read the article, can anyone paste it?

Arsenal have had their first bid for the Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga rejected, one of their long-term targets for the summer, as revealed by Telegraph Sport.

No mention of the actual value of the bid or what we actually want for him

He would do a full pre-season with Arsenal and then they will decide whether to keep him around the first team or loan him out

His deal guarantees the contract when he turns 17 so we aren’t gonna be shafted by it going to a tribunal like with Nyoni

Really hope we at least try and get him back here on loan and have a decent percentage sell on clause.

Why develop a player for them, when we can developing someone still here?

If he leave he doesn’t want to be here, we have sent enough time playing player who don't want to be here.

I’m more concerned with our recent transfer history.
No guarantee we’ll get anyone better or more likely a player who’s past it.
We used to buy young ish players with potential.
Now our transfer policy seems to be anyone from Southampton or shit players over 34.

In general leaving doesn't necessarily mean you don't want to be here does it, I imagine regardless of his thoughts, the club would be basically forcing him out as he's actually worth something

Annoys me how idle journalism is now - one article has Monga aged 19 :nigel:

Born in the UK, add 3 years

Born in Nigeria minus 3 years

because the difference in quality could be huge. And it could be a case of ‘ promotion at all costs’ and you need the absolute best players possible to do that.

besides, how do you know that player you want to develop, will develop? Maybe he won’t kick on? And then you are left with an inferior player not progressing  all because you wanted to look to the future. If that’s the case, the future might still be in league 1

I've not seen anything last season to say he going to take league 1 by storm, have you?

Still better to develop a player you own then a playet you don't.

Like less season we would have been better investing minutes in Page rather then developing Muskasa for Man City!

He’s shown skill  that no one else at our club has shown, except maybe   Fatawu.  he would absolutely walk all over the 1st Division, plus he already, at not even 17, is miles better than anyone we would be able to attract to the club.

i just think this whole ‘ develop our own talent ‘ is all a bit naive, because it presumes that person we bring in is going to progress,  we should be willing to do whatever it takes to get out of the 1st division

You said if he leaves he doesn't want to be here, but even if he did the club would likely want/have to sell regardless. Not everyone that leaves a club actually wants to leave, hence why I said in general, Monga likely does want to leave, but leaving doesn't always equate to wanting to go.

Good job you weren't in charge when Barnes, Chilwell and KDH came though

Development of your own players is never naive, if it was why do club spend millions on academies?

Short term thinking is what got us in this mess.
