WTF is happening?

Videos on local news here are horrible, plane cam be seen plummeting from the sky. Happened so fast that there was no mayday or emergency declaration to ATC.

Child was probably at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, a remarkable facility. Awful, awful news all around.

In case it isn't already immediately obvious and hasn't been for a long time, you're either kissing Trumps' arse or you're in his way, with all the consequences that entails. He and his self-interested lackeys do not do subtlety, nuance or any kind of middle ground.

The UK government and diplomatic corps should acknowledge this and act accordingly.

Only if it's a ploy for the next step to look like the scene with the corrupt police chief in Man on Fire.

Can we have a separate thread for American politics? I love a political debate but it’s literally every single post on here these days.

Think we did once upon a time, but then I think it was decided having all news/pol stuff in one thread (mostly) along with all the associated bickering was easier in terms of moderation.

It's an unfortunate fact, however, that the decisions made over there are going to affect us all - mostly negatively.

I'd disagree, at least on an individual level. Even our own government has only a micro influence on daily life. Even less a foreign one.

I think American politics effects us much less in the UK than we think. Less than for example Irish or French politics, which is discussed here very little.

American politics might affect many of us on a emotional level, but certainly not an practical one.

At an everyday practical level, this is all correct, there's plenty of evidence.

However, on a long term global level, to say nothing of the cultural osmosis that means... interesting US-centric political viewpoints are, taking on increased popularity in the UK (look at the % of Reform polling whose policy platform is basically Trump policy platform for the UK, with all that entails), I think that's a rather different matter that is worthy of consideration.

I'm just gonna drop this in here.

Not only is it brilliant, it's a pretty good explanation of how different political and social systems work.

If nothing else, it should brighten your day.

Probably because the main TV news programmes are very USA influenced and reported on and boy do they milk them.

GB News and the Daily Fail turning their ire upon the Scandinavian nations at the moment with very carefully cherry picked overstating, it would appear.

I never knew closing social inequality through economic and social models that result in overall quality of life figures the rest of the world envy was such a threat. Still, I guess such ideas are anathema to the social Darwinists and ethnonationalists.

Yeah, sugar coated bacon will suffice in the interim.

Always amazes me when Americans have the gall to criticise the cuisine from other countries.

Bar grits, drive-thru coffee and oversized fast food meals, what have they given to the world?

Have they invented the equivalent to the fish finger sandwich? Have they developed a rival to pie and mushy peas? No. No they haven't. They don't even know what chips are ffs.

Stupid Americans.

Every time somebody mentions grits I cannot remember what they are so I have to look them up and then realise there's a reason I can't remember: made of "maize that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization, with the pericarp (ovary wall) removed."

My mouth's watering at the very thought

What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given the world.  Culture.  Sophistication. Genius.  A little bit more than a hot dog.

Sounds like they're taking porridge and simply making it better/less nutritious

If I was you, I'd run for cover and close the hatch, 'cause you're gonna wind up on one of those meat hooks, my son.
