Worst thing you've done in a job without being sacked?

Ruud has managed to somehow keep his. What's the worst thing you've ever done in a job without getting the chop?

 

I'll start. I once messed up a spreadsheet that bad, that I blamed it on the intern. He was let go. I seen him sweeping the roads on Granby Street the other week. He said his career never recovered.

I wish this was true just because it would be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard . But then I also don't as it would make you a spineless ****

In the early 80s when videos were in their infancy, the company I worked for had a promotional video made.

 

The Midlands region staff were all invited to a showing of the video in the board room and as I was the only office-based employee that had any idea how to set up and operate a video player. I was given the task.

 

I swapped the promotional video for a porno that I'd rented from a video shop in town that lunchtime and got it ready at a particularly raunchy part of the movie.

 

The regional manager gave the video a great build-up but didn't see the funny side once I'd pressed 'Play', unlike the others in the room.

 

I got summoned to his office at 7.30am next morning to be given a dressing-down but thankfully his sense of humour had returned even though he tried to hide it

The worst thing I've ever done at work - I had a poo in a disabled toilet as it had a better flush than the staff toilets, a proper huge beastly thing got deposited in there. Instead of pulling the chain, I accidentally pulled the red triangle. Headteacher runs towards the toilet knocking on the door, shouting 'Is everything okay? Are you okay in there?' 

 

I had to put a fake voice on. He left and I ran out of there. No doubt he checked the CCTV after to see who the culprit was. Yes I'm a teacher.

Unloading pallets of pharmaceuticals and food supplies from a lorry with a pump-truck/Forklift combo.

 

Ended up collapsing an oversized pallet load causing over £30,000 of damage. 
 

Luckily I then damaged my knee at the same place of work tripping over some spilt liquid so they couldn’t really say or do anything 😂.

I used to save my bowel movements for work so that I could spend an extra half an hour out of my day getting paid to have a shit. Everyone just thought I was medically unwell.

I was only part of the chain here, but I got in deep shit once for going blindly along with what a hospital discharge note said and an old lady ended up being prescribed strong antipsychotics instead of her normal, similarly named medication.

This actually happened I was a station worker at Oxford station I had to check the trains that came in to go out of service to the depot as I was walking through one end of the train the cleaner walked through from the other way when saw him I presumed the other end was empty so I got off halfway and told driver to go. The cleaner stayed on the train to clean it then came on radio to say there was someone left on the train and you’ll never guess who it is it’s terry Waite the guy that got held hostage in Lebanon. Obviously my manager had to go over and sort it out

I was an intern at a company some years ago and was sacked for, what I maintain to this day, doing nothing wrong at all.

They said something about "messing up a spreadsheet" and sent me packing. Bit of a setback tbh.

A very close family once put up a projector inside a palatial home, and it fell and slashed a 17th century painting of King Charles I. 

 

He wasn't sacked but was informed that 'it's a good job the paintings are insured as that one was worth around £12 million.'

Mending a wireless microphone in a school, I was getting peeved at the students staring at me so I took it into the corridor. Trying to refit the batteries and get a steady connection I was going a bit potty mouth, when I returned to the class all the kids were red faced with tears streaming, it turns out every 2nd or 3rd word had been coming through the speakers. Could have been worse, I could have taken it to the loo ala Leslie Neilsen in Naked Gun!

I tried to manouvre a work van that was blocking my way when I was 16 (keys left in the ignition) and ended up smashing it into the back of another work van, requiring bodywork and 4 new doors. 😂😂

But a few months ago a friend was at a national conference for the sector of the media industry he works in. One bloke got his laptop out to give a presentation, and upon opening it he still had the previous night's viewing full-screen and mid-action. Luckily he wasn't plugged in at the time so only a relatively small section of the room saw it, but still... 

 

He was the CEO of this particular company, so apparently just laughed it off as "last night's entertainment." 

 

Absolute sociopath behavior. Genuinely, there would be no way I'd ever come back from that.
