Should be an obligation not option as once they see him they will be begging us to take him back!!

They'll probably pay us £5mil not to sign him

Stupid question I’m sure but how does that work out? Genuinely did not know this, I’d assumed any money whilst still a loss would be better than just releasing the player. PSR is such a confusing mess to the layman

Yes we are better to sale him then let him walk for free.

This is a interesting read which will explain it.

I know we all think he's crap but why are we so bad at negotiating deals, they are desperate for a defender. Should be £8-10m + add ons.

No one is paying that Ric, he can't get a game for a crap championship side.

My basic numbers are around £3m amortisation a year and £2.6m wages a year saved.

With 2 years left on his contract. His book value is about £6m

So broadly net neutral P&L to get him gone for free.

You can’t release him though in that he has a contract that would need to be paid up.

loaning a player out (in this Monaco) means that someone is covering the players wages.  Same for a free transfer.

For the amortisation, think of it as paying off his transfer fee over the life of his contract - in Woet’s case about £3m a year.  If he goes permanently for free  you are effectively paying what is remaining at the point he leaves us.

I'm just picturing a horror show here where he conveniently gets "injured" at the end of his loan spell, doesn't sign and happens to miraculously gain fitness just as the summer window shuts, leaving us stuck with the bastard until his contract ends.

Even worse, yet another brainless manager then decides to ignore all the warning signs from the last four seasons and "take another look" at him when he becomes available again - after wasting two months of the season being rotated with players more deserving of the shirt he then runs down the clock to leave on a free and another Rudkin masterclass ends in a huge loss.

I was going to make his mystery "injury" occur at the World Cup, but let's be honest, even in this post-Kompany and Vertonghen Belguim team I can't see him forcing his way back in, whether the French League makes him look semi-competent or not. I said it before but when you play Wales and your name ends up being a punchline in four different languages despite your team somehow winning, the gig is up. My bet is on it happening when he realises he's not going to make the squad despite having spent five months at a "superior" team.

Thanks for nothing Wout, well done for being a huge on-pitch reason for the state we now find ourselves in. And no, giving it back to the fans after scoring the winner against a team who weren't even being paid at the time and currently sit on minus-seven points does not mean you're thought of any more fondly.

As a deal for us, it’s piss poor. The loan move without an obligation means we are at risk of him being here past the summer. No one in their right mind is buying that option fee for Faes.

However, for this half season, getting rid of Winks and Faes is very good news. Both poor individuals, who lack integrity or decency. It’s not good to have such characters around and especially not so given the young players we have coming through. Any out with these two (and Vestegaard, Soumare etc) is a good out
