If Martin is a progressive Manager then he has to have learnt something from his mistakes and produce better players and results.

I hope he brings in Darling form Swansea if he does come here.  That would be a decent start.

I'd have taken Potter over Cooper

So would I. Last year they ****ed up and actually appointed the worst case scenario instead of leaking their name as a decoy.

Doh ... my bad.

In that case I quite liked Cooper,  so forget everything I've typed about RM 😀

I’m completely confused. You just said you liked Cooper and yet In your precious post you stated -

it was, and has always been about entertainment for me’

- Cooper most definitely did not play entertaining football at Leicester!!

It's difficult to feel any optimism about this if it comes off. The only things I'm clinging to is that Marsch, Parker and Potter were all apparently done deals before we brought in Smith, Maresca and Cooper respectively. And none of the big journalist hitters like Percy, Tanner, Romano etc are even reporting interest.

I often wonder if the club deliberately release the worst case scenario so we're grateful when they appoint anyone else, only getting it the wrong way around last year of course.

You're giving them far too much credit I think :D

Another shit thing about appointing Martin is it's another lightning rod to deflect attention away from the real issues. You didn't hear much about Rudkin when we had Cooper in charge.

Perfect fall guy for this lot. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the more important thing for them, rather than his possession obsession.

Sorry mate, poor attempt at a joke to cover up my error. (Of myself referring to RM by mistake)

Nothing against Cooper personally, but he was cr@p and I agree with you, his brand of football was definitely not entertaining)

Agreed he also plays a style which is becoming more efficient and we have wingers ready to play it, while Martin ball goes out of date.

Danny Röhl's style of play is characterized by a high-tempo, high-intensity approach with quick transitions and a focus on counter-attacking and direct play. He utilizes a flexible tactical approach, often alternating between 3-4-2-1, 4-2-3-1, and 4-5-1 formations, adapting to the opponent. His teams aim to exploit the flanks and utilize direct play to create chances, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and work rate.

Just such an obviously better fit. He's got massive shades of being this years Corberan.

I've long suspected this. If there's one thing they're good at it's reputation management. Finally it's running out though.

Röhl has done enough to earn a move to, at least, a better Championship side than Sheffield Wednesday. It would be interesting to see what he does with a decent youth set up, better players and bigger budget. One might scoff at the thought that we can offer that, but all three are objectively true.

Why has he? He did well at keeping Wednesday up last season but they haven't progressed. With this season being his first full season they finished a massive 8 points ahead of Derby who spent most of the season looking like they were getting relegated. Even Portsmouth come up with less and only finished 4 points behind Wednesday.

Weren't we told that the Ruud announcement was going to be yesterday and Martin was today?

I smell a rat with this.

Already 72 pages on how much no one wants Russell Martin only for the board to appoint Russell Martin

I remember the disappointment and utter despair I felt when we appointed Cooper.

Really didn’t think that anything could beat that but here we are.

He won't have "learnt" anything.

Cooper said he used his unemployed time to "learn" from his mistakes and he was just as shit as before.

You can't just learn to be better.  You can learn how to be better but the being better required practice / application.

At a club that's so badly run it makes 2025 Leicester look like 2016 Leicester. The players don't always get paid on time, Chansiri has publicly undermined him and it's all hopelessly dysfunctional. Given all that, what he managed with them in 23-24 was ridiculous.

You raise a point regarding Pompey, mind. I think Mousinho is one to watch.

Sheff Wed are a strange one. He's got them the 5th best away performance in the league but 23rd at home. Odd. Home form has really cost them any chance of top six really.

But the team and players aren't very good, he's got them well punching above their weight. I wanted him in as my first choice manager.

yes but going for Rohl actually means paying money, when this club would rather spunk that on 32yr old wingers

Out of the names mentioned I wanted him as my first choice too but also people talk him up massively when Wednesday have generally been inconsistent. I don't think he will be in demand as some like to think, there was a lot of talk on here that he would end up back at Southampton which never happened.

As Bilo said, Wednesday are a shambles behind the scenes, worse than us, hes hardly spent alot of money there either, for all that hes done there is a remarkable job hes done

What a contrast between us and Saints. 72 pages of mainly dread and absolute disgust at the boards complete lack of imagination and ignorance towards fans opinions, compared to the Southampton fans who for the most part look absolutely raring to go already, behind the manager and excited for the future.

Its making me feel sick seeing where we are.
