I mean, the board u-turned on Jesse Marsch because of the fan backlash, the backlash towards RM has been far stronger, surely someone, somewhere in the club is passing this feedback on??

Someone at the club needs to print these 73 pages off and put it under Rudkins door.

Martin seems a good guy and would probably leave us in a better position than he inherited, but the point is you can already envision his departure before he’s even started, he’s admitted himself he’s more determined than ever not to deviate his game plan, madness if we go for this.

He would be a great match for Rangers, but this place will be toxic after 5-10 matches next season if we follow the game plan of his Southampton team last season.

He wont be. He will already think he has better tools to make his style work (Winks, Vesty etc).

Entirely this.  Whilst not as negative about Martin as most people here he will absolutely not be flexible.  In his interview with Lineker he explicitly states:

A) my style now is the same as when I first started coaching just a more extreme version.

B) I will remain true to this style, I can always learn and make tweaks but this is the style my teams will play.

C) I want to prove this style can work with players who aren't 'the best players'

I think he shows a lot of emotional intelligence in that interview, talking openly about his difficult upbringing and how that has informed his management style.  He also talks a bit about bringing through younger players, admitted he made a mistake not using Dibling earlier.

But he's very clear he ain't changing how his teams play.

There is no way that the club and Martin will be unaware of the backlash, particularly given the chants on Sunday. Maybe this has caused either the club or Martin, or both, to have second thoughts - hence no announcement despite TalkSport saying three days ago it was imminent.

That's the line that will appeal to the owners.

I think the club are pretty reactionary on the whole and likely to run a mile from any decisions that actively piss the fans off. They were very rattled when the fans made it clear we didn't want Marsch, and the reaction to that impending appointment wasn’t nearly as vitriolic.

I mentioned earlier though that they're pretty good at reputation management and, in my view, have leaked worst case scenario appointments to see how we react to them. If you've resigned yourself to the worst, then the mediocre looks pretty good by comparison, and the genuinely good looks amazing.

So when we had resigned ourselves to Marsch and ended up with Smith, we looked at it as better than it was. Maresca instead of Scott Parker looked less a gamble (which it was, it just happened to pay off) and more an exciting and progressive appointment.

Now we're all resigned to #WelcomeRussell, the appointment of pretty much anyone else will invoke a sigh of relief and give the new manager more time with a fanbase who'll say 'at least he isn't Martin.'

Interesting theory, could be right but who is the Maresca this time in your opinion? Who is the appointment who is not as bad a Martin?

We all know they aren't considering anyone currently in a job, so I'd be more annoyed at Sean Dyche than Martin, if the club really have backed away.

If this drags on much longer without any announcement, it will start to look like they are after somebody already in a job but don't want to pay the compo until the new accounting period has started on 1 July.

Honestly, I'm not sure.

It won't be anyone abroad as our board is too myopic. I would have said Still if Southampton hadn't got in first, but it could be Carsley, Muslic, Röhl, Hassenhutl or Cleverley.  The only way I think we go abroad is if they utilise their Belgian contacts and go for someone like Tedesco.

Or are waiting for the PL share to be transferred at the next AGM so we are officially a Championship club and the compensation is cheaper.

Certainly if the decision had been made to sack RVN and replace him with someone unemployed and happy to come here, you'd think we'd at least have heard as such from one of the Tier 1 journalists. That we haven't suggests that no deal has been done.

Am I right in thinking Eddie Howe didn't do so well at Burnley and I don't think Lampard's first foray into management was a resounding success.

You can never tell with these appointments,  always a bit hit and miss but it's so toxic at city at the moment whoever comes in has a job on their hands.

Smith came with Sharky and Terry and was only till the end of the season. My biggest concern with Marsch was we put him on a 3 year deal and were lumbered with him in the Championship.

The situation is different now. We should be appointing management based on a 3 year plan, a plan which should center around our academy.

Fans don’t have enough patience for three year plans! They don’t have patience for three match plans.

Indeed.

I would argue that the behaviour of the club points more towards the opposite.

Ok, we don't 'know' but we can make an highly educated assumption based on the fact we had money to spend last summer and chose not to spend it on manager who was in a job.

Fast forward 12 months, we are in an even worse financial position after two failed managerical appointments to add to likely PSR issues for this season.

Highly likely we will go for someone out of work.
