Saw this item and didn't really know where to put it, don't think it's worth it's own thread

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cwy5vx4x24jo

Essentially it's a "Where-are-they-now?" of the England squad that won the U-17 World Cup.

We get a lot of calls to play the youngsters, often with the claim that they will develop into valuable assets. This article shows that it's actually pretty hit and miss.

It must be tough being in that squad and seeing your former team mates playing for the likes of Manchester City and Atlético Madrid whilst you're playing for Croydon.

Are the BBC just continuously posting Rooney's opinions as rage bait?

Why is there a new column quoting his views every day? He was a thick footballer, he was a thick manager, lo and behold he's a thick pundit.

Man makes Michael Owen look like a genius. Stop this, Beeb.

I've mentioned dit before punditry is just completely unmeritocratic. Fame is basically the yardstick rather than insightfulness, it's crap. The likes of Danny Murphy and formerly Jenas being so overpromoted is the worst, mediocre players and pundits. At the very least Owen and Rooney had good careers but it doesn't excuse crap punditry.

Steven Warnock thought Red Star Belgrade (60k full ground, European cup winners) were semi-pro, should never have gotten a job in the media again after that.

Meanwhile, Nedum Onuoha can barely break out of the podcast scene.

Don't think I've ever encountered him on anything.

The trouble is I think most players with anything about them go straight into coaching. The lack of promotion so-to-speak is a big problem, Pat Nevin is really sharp but he's never getting a good gig on TV

Have a YouTube browse.

Extremely well spoken and intelligent guy with a good understanding of football from both a human, emotional level and a tactical one.

Does get the odd TV appearance but never much consistent.
