It's a word beginning with g that's occurring in that area of the world.

Obvs don't want to say it because it won't be approved, but just making other users aware as it's a word I used and had the same message.

Gaza?

Worked for me.

Is it?  I am not sure you have any basis for that do you?

Yeah I don’t get that either. Surely it’s easier to keep something going than it is to kickstart something struggling?

Growth is measured against GDP at a starting point. If the GDP is less than other countries then even if both improved by the same amount it would be easier to have a larger percentage growth whilst actually growing less.

i.e. the UK had a GDP of around 3.5 trillion USD last year and say it grows 10% that would give it a GDP gain of of 350 billion USD. And the US around 27 trillion USD last year and say it only grows 5% it's 1.35 trillion, half the growth percentage but almost four times GDP growth

last year the UK was around 4.5% the Q4 2019 (pre covid) output, whereas the rest of the eurozone was around 6% ahead - so we were behind already - so easier to grow in percentage terms

this is why I think we need an overhaul, and critical infrastructure projects or long term planning should sit in the house of lords (or some equivalent)

just look at our travel infrastructure.... tories cancelled HS2, announced a load of rail and road projects and then labour canned most of them.

whatever Labour come up in to replace it, will probably be canned by reform after the next election.

it's no wonder our infrastructure is appalling.

A while ago someone posted in this topic that there are some good ideas across all major parties but never get off the ground because the nature of opposition is to oppose, no matter what the benefits to the country and the people could be.

GDP growth is always compared in %, so your argument makes no sense.

Sometimes adversarial politics gets things done in the right way.

Often, it doesn't and mutual cooperation has to be done instead.

Unfortunately, given the nature of things right now, there's far too many people who believe in all of the former and none of the latter.

And the power-hungry and despotic tend to extend across a lot of demographics.

AI - The most famous quote about learning from history is, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it," by George Santayana. Another widely cited quote on the topic is from Georg Hegel: "We learn from history that we do not learn from history".

We seemed to be rehashing the 1930s and we know where that ended.

We seemed to be rehashing the 1930s and we know where that ended.

And to add to this, those who do learn from history are doomed to watch others repeat it.

I've long thought that the last decade or so rather aped both the timeline of the TV show Years and Years and the actual 1930s. Neither of those are particularly optimal in the way they turn out for our species.

Come on you guys where’s your sense of mocking gone, I remember the old days when there would be 5+ pages of mockery if the chancellor had said “The UK is the envy of the world with the trade deals we have done recently..” you’ve all changed 😜

Perhaps it's because the world outside the UK is more so upside down that a UK Chancellor saying that, even if everything her detractors said were true, wouldn't be the most egregious, mock-worthy lie of the week, or even the day.
