I knew it was a thing in London and I’m always a little conscious when I’m down there but that number is just insane, if 13000 was the amount being stolen a year was the number it would be outrageous but a reduction.

Like saying violent crime is down by x %. Compared to what and when?

There is an issue with reduced reporting of crime. My guess is that khan has been doing some good to reduce crime though.

What is the loophole? I don't get it. We have one near us that I walk past most days full of the usual brightly coloured stuff. Never seen a customer and always make a point of looking.

Well then, there's clearly something going on and these places are avoiding the law however their doing it. So therefore they're exploiting something.

 

It's a widespread and well known activity throughout the UK. Even villages have "acquired" vape shops and Turkish barbers.

Can't help but think authorities be that Police and other agencies have been looking the wrong way when these places proliferation was seen

Saw someone comment on the Burnham homeless pledge and say ‘he’s really not the PM for me’ 

 

Dead serious that he couldn’t care that homelessness is reduced. Let alone the positive knock on effect to society, crime and the economy

I think this is why it’s a genius policy. He’s taken the thing Nigel is known for and not only stolen his thunder, but enacted a policy on that very topic. Yes it’s populist but up and down the country people will see him in a better light tonight.

I quite often see people moaning about vape shops or Turkish barbers. I mean fair enough they look tacky as fuch but up to 19 percent of some Midlands Towns, shop fronts are vacant. That surely would be a more pressing concern. I would rather have a vape shop than an empty shop! At least it's contributing to the economy in some small way. 

 

Let's worry about stopping town centers becoming ghost towns before we get precious about what the shops are.

Got to play the game at the end of the day. Starmer failed at this. There were no doubt plenty of good things that happened under his government but he lacked the ability to essentially, boast about them and make sure the public could see. As such, he has been ousted with an albeit nonsense, label of worst PM. 
 

I also notice Burnham’s trip to the pub was in Essex. Not Clacton….but close enough. Same county.

Intrigued what the Manchester branch of Number 10 is actually going to achieve. 

Moves some minor decision making to the north, probs a number of civil servant jobs but what else? 

Real improvement of other areas of the country comes from funding, encouraging businesses to set up elsewhere and actual transport infrastructure

It also has customers. The high street won't survive if it's filled with shops that don't actually need customers.

There's a new, yes another one nail shop opened in Hinckley I've yet to see a customer in it.

 

Are they the new VAP / Turkish Barbers ?

There’s two Turkish barbers in my local town and neither of them ever have any customers.They just sit outside on their phones.

There are three in Wigston town centre. Each one of them is always rammed.

 

My concern with nail bars is that they're usually full of people who could do themselves a favour and not spend money on something they don't need and then go to the food bank.
