Hasn’t been seen in public since Tuesday, and everything is bizarrely quiet.

Something is off.

The swollen ankles as a symptom of congestive heart failure, clear evidence of cognitive decline in speeches and behaviour and the bruised hands he's desperate to hide. Plus Vance simultaneously praising his health and saying that he's ready to takeover in case of 'a terrible tragedy.'

Yeah I highly doubt he’ll see out his term. There’s a reason why you don’t see many people of his size in their 80’s. Don’t think dementia like others have suggested but if he had a sudden cardiovascular incident, I wouldn’t be shocked. The question would be if he would hand over power to Vance if he was incapacitated or whether he’d rule from a hospital bed.

This is where the 25th Amendment could kick in and cause absolute chaos.

He can be removed by a majority of his cabinet if they deem him mentally or physically unable to discharge his duties as president, but he can veto it. This would mean a two-thirds majority of both houses of Congress would need to overrule his veto.

Absolute chaos if it happened.

And to add to this, it's the ideas he represents that need to be neutralised. Having him unable to have the power to be behind such ideas would help and that could take many forms short of him shuffling off.

(Not that I would feel much looking at an obituary given the amount of lives the man has already ruined.)

Think I'd prefer Trump to Vance. European security down the swanny tomorrow.

Vance used to be a Trump critic, who knows what his beliefs would be now if trump wasn't there.

That said, firstly I highly doubt what people are speculating, second republicans don't have much choice but to double down on MAGA politics given how far they've gone in selling their souls to it.

What CornwallFox is alluding to is pretty much my thoughts. JD Vance doesn't seem to believe in anything beyond JD Vance accumulating power. If he unexpectedly becomes president before 2028, his thoughts will turn towards whichever model of Republican politics will win him that election.

If he thinks that MAGA has become toxic to undecided voters and won't win him an election, he'll become an establishment neocon faster than you can blink. He famously opposed Trump by describing himself as a Never Trump Guy because he did what most people did and wrote him off as a nutjob. That he's now Trump's VP isn't a Damascene conversion, it's pragmatism of the most unprincipled kind.

FWIW, he's also crushingly uncharismatic and unlikeable so I don't think he wins an election unless the Dems pick an absolute horror. I certainly don't think he'd win it on a MAGA ticket as it's a movement dependent if not on Trump himself then certainly a charismatic, abrasive and blunt speaking front man. Vance is too boring, too normal and too unprincipled to do that.

Nothing wrong with wishing death on demonstrably bad people imo.

When it finally happens the state of of his maga crew sitting in a room praising him for what he has done for the world is going to be the most disgusting vomit inducing shite you have ever heard in your life.

I don’t think Vance would last 5 minutes any time he took over he is a boring tw@ that will be crying in to his cornflakes because someone didn’t say thank you for something he did that was unnecessary and no one wanted. I doubt any one will take him seriously

Apparently JD Vance keeps telling him to take all of the health speculation with a pinch of salt.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has said her party will remove all net zero requirements on oil and gas companies drilling in the North Sea if elected.

Badenoch is to formally announce the plan to focus solely on "maximising extraction" and to get "all our oil and gas out of the North Sea" in a speech in Aberdeen on Tuesday.

Reform UK has said it wants more fossil fuels extracted from the North Sea.

The Labour government has committed to banning new exploration licences. A spokesperson said a "fair and orderly transition" away from oil and gas would "drive growth".

Exploring new fields would "not take a penny off bills" or improve energy security and would "only accelerate the worsening climate crisis", the government spokesperson warned.

The Tories attempting to out-Reform Reform on this matter, then. Perhaps they might listen to the farmers they supposedly care so much about screaming bloody murder about changing weather conditions and crop failures that are a direct result of policy decisions like this one.

Realistically the Tories are done unless Farage drops Reform last minute and gets Jenrick to be Tory leader or something. There’s no room on the right now and nobody is voting Tory to protest reform.

This is why the Tories purging all the moderate MPs in their party under Boris Johnson to get Brexit through has backfired for them so massively. Reform gave firmly captured the right vote now and they’re never going to out-Farage Farage under Badenoch or Jenrick but there is a hole in the centre which a liberal Wet Tory party could’ve filled.
