It's darkly remarkable that the future of countless millions of people and possibly civilisation itself is a partisan or really political issue in the first place.

The state of the Earth that gives us all the resources that every single human relies upon really should be everyone's problem.

Oh absolutely but in a way that's the point I'm making. If you're going to be the green party, then make our response to climate change your one single stand out policy, and ditch all the divisive left wing policies that might cause people to disagree with you. Think they'd get more votes that way.

I'd rather the greens were more centrist so they garnered greater support. Think they miss out on many votes because of their left wing sensibilities (and I say that as a left wing voter myself). The green issue is too big a deal to attach it to politics that don't appeal as wisely as possible.

That said, they'd only damage the chances of Farage's defeat, as you say. Unfortunately on the left we all like perfection so split ourselves into small factions that can't win a FPTP election.

I agree with almost all of that. But I'm not sure that a potentially wider appeal would damage the chances of defeating Farage. The Greens adopted that approach at the last election and took 2 seats off the Tories in the rural shires (as well as 1 off Lab in Bristol plus the usual one in Brighton).

Although a large part of the Greens' membership has always been leftist, I reckon them adopting a more explicitly left-populist approach is potentially more damaging to the left/centre left electorally, even if it proves less successful for them as a party, as I suspect. The votes they now gather will be overwhelmingly from folk who might otherwise have voted Lab or LD - previously some of their support came from non-aligned or even former Tory voters (as their wins in rural Suffolk & Herefordshire showed).

Still an awful lot of stuff could happen in the next 4 years, though - though I do think they and Corbyn's crew will have to come to some arrangement or they could both fail!

"You're trying to rape our kids," shouted one of the women. They were accompanied by children and one held a pint of lager.

If that doesn't scream 'I get all my news from Facebook and paint roundabouts while Tradgediegh and Jaiydiyn are in bed' I don't know what does

Going into the Trump topic, what non story announcement will this be?

I also love how these proud patriots and bastions of tradition always give their kids good old-fashioned English names.

He can deport himself surely and buy a ticket to Africa and then over to Somalia if there aren't any direct flights can't he? I can't see why he needs the government to do it? Mate of mine just went Kenya which is nextdoor. Can't he just fly there and walk over the border? What am I missing?

Horrific scenes and kind of sums up the state of the general public in this country - the pint of beer swilling out the glass whilst she was swearing as her kids looked on was almost comical.

Graham Linehan arrested at Heathrow over his X posts - BBC News

"I hear you're a Nazi now Father!"

His is a sad case, he's clearly been sucked into an online world and become radicalized and the line between that and the real world has become blurred, he's lost everything and needs to be saved from himself.

Well Linehan is pleading not guilty on the alleged harassment, so we will have to wait and see.  I might not agree with all of his views, but he states that he was arrested by five armed police at Heathrow.  If true, what a ridiculous waste of police resources.

Seems like an incitement to violence to me.

"I hear you are brave enough to voice entirely sensible views that are held by the majority of people, father".

I rather hope that this is ironic, otherwise advocating violence towards a marginalised demographic being a "sensible view that is held by the majority of people" would be a rather depressing indictment on UK society.

Do you think anyone with half a brain would read that and go ''Right, must take that approach to dealing with trans women because some guy on the internet said so'' I'm not sure his influence is that far reaching is it? I think there is plenty said on the internet, or generally like knife crime, rape, murder etc that warrants armed officers arresting you at an airport.

Stopping at “call the cops” might have been more prudent and less of an irony.

One would hope not, but given the amount of things that have happened in the last decade on account of people with not a lot of reach on the internet saying things,  I'm going to keep a broad mind on the possibility.

In any case, I'm just hopeful that the sentiment in the OP was ironic and not indicating that the majority of the UK populace have a problem with rather large lack of empathy.

I think clamping down on the obvious, influential people, who can make people do daft things - Tommy Robinson, Trump, Andrew Tate to name a few would be a start

They were armed because most police are armed at airports, not like they stood him down with guns drawn, just they were the ones tasked with picking him up and escorting him out.

Factually correct that he was arrested by 5 armed police, but people hear armed and think it's been a pistols at dawn job.

Very aware that there are armed police at airports, but not sure why it would take five of them to escort him off a plane.

Whenever you see someone arrested at an airport there's always a bunch of them, presumably so there's no risk at all of them escaping and running around where they shouldn't be.
