An interesting interview on Newsnight last night with the ex head of the Personal Protection team who said that there's no way Andrew, as a high profile Royal, could have rocked up in a pizza joint without the place being fully vetted beforehand and he would have been accompanied by close protection officers and that those officers will have kept a record of the visit. He added that the pizza place would have been closed to the public for the safety of him and his daughters.

We all know it was a big fat lie.

No sweat, Andrew.

Don't lose your head over all this.

Cabinet secretary frontrunner faced multiple bullying complaints https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0zjw5pz48o

you could write  this

journalists will be going into overdrive looking for employees that have been bullied by  Romeo now she’s been appointed.

If they do find them and incidents emerge that lead to Starmer having to dismiss her, he’ll claim that there was no way he could have known. How about you just choose someone who hasn’t got multiple complaints made against them !!

Optimistic. A10 can be a nightmare at rush hour.

I defy anyone to reach the top of an organisation without pissing someone off along the way, especially when they get parachuted in without being the typical appointee.

100% but there are differences between ‘pissing someone off’ and generating written accusations of bullying from more than one source.

all I’m saying is that politically he should be more careful about his appointments because an excuse ‘how could I have known’ won’t wash for the umpteenth time. he’s exhausted that excuse after the mandelson debacle.

Lying to the press is not a crime and nor is sex with girls over the age of consent however wrong that looks given his age and position of power.  I don't know how you would even start to prove someone knew they were not there of their own free will decades later.  I guess it would take a number of very good witnesses.  Whether he is charged with anything in this space probably depends on whether there is a law which means he was complicit on trafficking, which is why the Gordon Brown insight could be important along with the investigations of private flight logs.  Or some evidence to suggest underage girls were involved of course.

Much more likely he goes to jail for this misconduct charge I think.

You would be surprised honestly.  In the last year I have been involved in the legal side of HR cases, and the shit that people come up with is unbelievable.  A mix of completely baseless lies and massive exaggeration.  Usually when people who are not up to the job are moved on. There are chancers in every organisation, and they take aim at anyone who makes changes or moves them on.

He was out of excuses after the Lord Alli debacle

Private sector growth at 22-month high, largest monthly surplus on record and retail sales 1.8% up against forecast of 0.2%.

Nice for there to be some good economic news even if the trends are what matters most.

Also, they were investigated with it being found there was no care to answer.

Are we really going to wreck the careers of people found to have done nothing wrong?

There's a few things really hurting them - small boats, unemployment figures and cost of living still needs fixing through wage rises - but they are making some good progress in a number of areas. They do look like a government actually trying to produce good results, which we haven't seen for a long time.

Absolutely we shouldn’t

I’m just making the point that Starmer is again playing Russian roulette with a loaded gun when he could fill it with blanks

We should always be appointing the best person for the job.  But this is politics and Starmer has been ‘unlucky’ a number of times already

and as a realist, I know we have another 3 years at least of this government and I’m concerned who would be PM if he was forced out.  Fwiw, I consider him a capable PM in a difficult position (global politics is a minefield).
