The story is that it was Leuven's DOF who recommended BEK.

If that's the case then I'll take it back 😅

To be fair this is literally the entire point of affiliate clubs....

Tbf your point is still valid - summer of 23/24 was decent enough. personally I think our scouting is so mixed up - manager input, scouting input, agent input - we've ended up with no clear transfer policy

Its a major problem, it prevents any level of continuity and longer term planning. A good DoF would.....

....screw it, everyone knows this  :(

The thing that bothers me is not if Bilal goes. If his clause is met and he wants to go, there is nothing we can do. It's more that we SHOULD already have a few options to replace him in mind. We should have put the feelers out to see what they would cost and what they would want just in case it happens but we all know, thats not gonna be the case.

I'm  not convinced there is any intention of the club making significant signings apart from maybe a few loans.

Seems at least possible that the club has decided- or is being required- to limit all non-essential spending and maybe even, who knows, channel funds back to help KP's financial troubles in Thailand.

Future doesn't look all that promising and the silence we've all had to become used to from the Boardroom certainly isn't in any way reassuring.

We have had six weeks and signed a goalkeeper on a free after selling one for £18m……no rumours of any realistic/significant signings, possible departures…..Newcastle paid £25m for Harvey Barnes, fine player he is but is Bilal better than Barnes……if they meet the release figure, he’s gone….great shame if he does…..

I’d take Barnes over Bilal in a heartbeat. He’s talented, no doubt. But he’s got a way to go to be a top PL player.

Barnes is not dropping down to the championship if he doesn't make the grade at Newcastle he will probably end up at the likes of Fulham/West Ham or Everton.

Totally, I just meant theoretically

In terms of squad depth, I’d rather not loose either but I think I’d rather loose Fatawu than BEK. I don’t think we have a ready made replacement for BEK, whereas we a wealth of decent wingers for this level. Having said that, if BEK release clause is triggered then we’ll have no choice, but hopefully means we don’t have to sell Fatawu.

Id imagine if Eze goes to spurs, Palace come for Bilal

The journalist Ed Aarons has just said the same.

Newcastle have bid for Jacob Ramsey - do they get both Bilal and Ramsey?

Palace interested as well now.

Palace, who have lost their appeal to be reinstated to the Europa League, will hope to hold on to their best attacker. Once Eze’s clause expires, they are expected to demand a similar fee that would include a significant chunk up front in order for them to find a replacement. Palace are believed to have targeted Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss.

Fine, you want a large amount for Eze, we know you'll have cash and are desperate to replace with not long to go....BEND THEM OVER RUDKIN

£12m + £3m add-ons incoming

Surely Omari Hutchinson would be more appealing to these clubs, as a better (for them) alternative to BEK

If I was running a football club, I'd be seriously looking at:

location of the player

Where he is in terms of wanting out of the current club

returns in terms of goal contributions

and of course value for money

I think BEK is still too raw for either Newcastle or Palace. I think Omari fits Palace better as a replacement for Eze, and Newcastle quite frankly don't need BEK (ie - he's not a winger, striker or goal keeper)

I don’t disagree re Hutchison

but BEK will be considerably cheaper

after Friday his price will drop by at least 5m

there will be no bidding war - these no longer exists. Agents and buying clubs arrange a deal. The selling club gets as much as they can within that context.

No i think our position gets stronger. Closer to season clubs getting more desperate

Why?
the player and his agent will find the club that they want.  We have to decide whether we are keeping an unhappy player or taking the best deal we can get.  Mads fee has already shown our weakness in the market to clubs.  Whilst there is a RC we can say ‘that’s the clause, pay it’. Once it’s gone the only bottom we can effectively enforce is his psr value.   If he goes after the weekend then I’d expect a fee around. £22/24m inc add ons

our experience in keeping unhappy players isn’t great. They generally don’t try as hard as we need them to.
