Had we refused to put a reasonable clause in his contract he would not have signed. Also release clauses as we discovered with contracts that didnt haveone, are not the end of the world. Rather sell for a clause amount than get nothing. Its a shitty situation, but if the clause is met, and he wants out, then he is sold. Had we still had our good scouting and analysis system in place, this sort of thing wouldnt be such a big deal.

Pliskin Posted 16 August 2025 Posted 16 August 2025 (edited) Clause has expired as far as I’m aware. I think we would know about it if it had been triggered. As I’ve said, why would anyone trigger his clause when it has days until it expires? As a potential buyer you’ll chance your arm at a low ball offer wouldn’t you? We know that we won’t accept any less than his clause, but to other clubs at the moment we appear desperate, so they may be thinking that we’re scratching around the back of sofa’s for cash, and put in a low offer to get him cheaper than we value him. No one was paying £25-30m for him, he’s not got the stats to justify that tag. Edited 16 August 2025 by Pliskin 2
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 16 August 2025 Posted 16 August 2025 If he’s desperate to play in the Premier League and we feel his performances with us might be affected by this I’m wondering if a straight loan is the best option. We could command a loan fee and get his wages covered that would cover the cost of a replacement(s). I look at it as a win/win - if he does well and we got promoted he either comes back to us with another years PL experience or we command a higher fee then we would get now. If he doesn’t perform, he comes back to us and we review it. Don’t get me wrong - I would rather keep him as along with Fatawu will be one of the best players in the league. I just don’t want anyone with us who doesn’t want to be here. I also don’t want us to take a cut-price deal if he tries to force a move. As long as we got sufficient remuneration and he played a certain % of games it wouldn’t be the worst idea imo.

There’s been zero suggestions he has, I’ve even heard he’s told Moroccan media he wants to help us get back up.

Our response to that offer would have given them useful information on how stubborn we’re likely to be with our valuation of BEK, which in turn would have told them whether it was worth triggering the release clause. I agree with you that no club is likely to pay £30m for him, but I also think we won’t sell him for less. Which will mean he stays. 3

Absolutely agree however we are at risk that a club low balls an over and BEK starts agitating for a move and becomes unsettled and we are left with an unhappy player or forced to accept a lower offer than we had wanted to prevent being lumbered with another want away unhappy player at the club.

There’s no indication of him agitating for a move and I don’t think he will. If a top club came in for him, he might. But Leeds or Palace? Nah.
