Surely he'll go for less after the release clause expires?

Of course not. It means then we set the price to what we want, which will be more than the clause. So in short, unless someone actually pays the clause, then I don’t think he will go.

That his release clause expires before our next league game so if he is off, it's surely by the weekend.

Yes, that’s a safe assumption. But there only seem to be vague rumours, nothing that suggests anything is imminent, and the clock is ticking…

Does seem like it teams are up against it but probably just assessing what the exact terms are and knowing when they can execute it.

Wonder if the clause is all upfront?

Possible teams would be will to pay more to have a better payment structure.

I am sure this is the case as well. It doesn't change a psr calc, just a cashflow one.

Makes no difference to us, we will just sign a ludicrous interest deal with Macquarie anyway.

The clause doesn't prevent clubs from offering less than the clause amount. If we were willing to sell for less than the clause, then the clause expiring means nothing.

IF nobody puts in a bid before the release clause expires it puts us in a stronger negotiation position and we'll probably be asking for £35-£40million

The only way that I think  we could think about dropping the price on expiry of the release clause is If there is a loyalty clause attached to it. If player doesn’t throw a wobbly and do a Fofana, city will pay x amount to player on exit. Meaning post release clause, the clause falls away and player can (not saying they would) “do a Fofana” - not saying there is one.

otherwise, why would you ? If we were desperate, we could drop now, amend the terms, get it done.  The expiry otherwise immediately puts you in a stronger position and you keep the terms but at a higher price. It also means as we move closer to the deadline,  the buying club has more risk. With this big squad one thing we are not short on is cover for the championship, realistically, we don’t need to buy - we’d be stronger if we got it right and did but we can absolutely compete in this league with this squad. PL clubs who lose guys like Eze or shit like Leeds are a different story,

It’s not like Chelsea or Arsenal are chasing him, it’s ****ing Leeds and Palace, it’s not the dream move. Someone show Bilal what happened to KDH when he was patient.

keeping hold of BEK, Winks and fatawu would be the best business of the window if we pull it off, no concerns making play offs if we keep them. Lose one of these and we are in the mud

Hard to see anything happening in the next 24 hours. And even harder to see someone paying more in a couple of weeks.

Isn’t going anywhere on that showing - absolutely no chance someone pays 30m quid for him - no chance

What did he do wrong in the little time he was on the pitch

You'd have thought if there was a date is RC ends, his agent would have it out to the press

Well, it did. It's been widely reported that it ends 8/15.

The point of a release clause that expires 2 weeks before the window closes, is to ensure he either goes with enough time for a replacement (at a price we've set) or the later he leaves, the more we get paid, to compensate for less time to replace.
