I think he bridges an important gap, he’s definitely closer to Enzo than for example Rohl or Klopp in approach, but he’s far less wedded to his setup, he plays to dominate the ball but he comes across to me as less patient to get shots on goal and is happy to let wingers run free and create chances rather than looking for the perfect moment.

I think he could possibly be the compromise that gives us entertaining, fast paced football but blended with a style that focuses on ball retention.

time to change the dp etc, Rohl is staying at Wednesday lol

I think it's probably more the case that people just clicked on the thread to talk about the guy who is apparently the leading candidate and didn't pay too much attention to what is a really weird opening post

No no no

Not having that.

My post was composed of phrases extrapolated from the Rohl thread. Some maybe with a bit of a twist.

But if you find the post weird, think how those who are sane felt reading that Rohl thread.

Or you’ve had a sense of humour failure

Stopped reading at this point. Why anyone takes any notice of that attention seeking weapon is beyond me.

Yeah very much agree, there’s a real fine balance with possession football and it just looking boring on the eye. The fact he looks not to be to wedded to it is a very good thing.

As long as he’s adaptable, integrating all of our youth consistently, gets a squad competing for promotion and playing for the badge we’re all happy. ( hard task but we have top championship players )

Happy with Cifuentes, young and upcoming, would rather we lose the playoffs and go up next year with something maintainable than go up with Dyche or Wilder and be a hanger on/ relegation scrap muck for the foreseeable

Great stuff.
Must be good no need for a goal keeper.

There’s no such thing as a goalie these days. The guys tasked with having passing ability of Pirlo and are occasionally supposed to obstruct that ball from hitting the back of their net thing are known as No. 1’s

No strikers? No problem!

The false 9 is on!

mavididi/bek/monga down the middle sitting a bit deeper with the wingers pushed high and narrow could be interesting!

Frey was their main striker, but seemed to play more like a false 9. He ranked well in the Championship for aerial duels and possessions won.

Cifuentes also played wingers in the striker role on numerous occasions, as you said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mavididi especially is used in that role.

Frey was basically a 7 foot bald Swiss geezer that was there to chase after the ball from what I could tell.

I think my brain has been slowly fried over the last year...

Why does that look good?!

Just spotted someone that looks similar buying Serrano ham at Morrisons. When I shouted at him he said “vete a tomar por culo”.
I think it means he’s signing tonight.

It’s new football. Because on the ball that’s similar to how Enzo shaped us and off the ball Ricardo drops in to make the 4 :dunno:

So busy of late, seem to be relying on AI aggregation for news…even in these most critical of topics

🎯 Bottom line:

Cifuentes is not just open to youth—he actively integrates them. Across clubs, from Scandinavia to the Championship, he’s consistently handed teenage academy players significant game time based on performance. So yes: if they earn it, youth players will get chances under him.

As @Ric Flair has said numerous times it should be a non-negotiable for any manager to use our youth players

Find this encouraging also

🎯 In Summary:

Yes, Cifuentes and Maresca are quite similar—both are Guardiola-influenced coaches with positional play foundations, structured build-up, and high pressing.
However, Cifuentes tends to be slightly more pragmatic and occasionally quicker in vertical play, while Maresca leans toward extreme control and patience.

If you like Maresca’s style, you'd likely appreciate Cifuentes too—though Cifuentes may feel a bit more adaptable, especially in the Championship

A bit like Maresca but not as inflexible.
