Hopefully the manager and players are focused on winning this game, not on feeling sorry for Wednesday fans or complaining about how badly things are run. If we go into this game without that focus we could easily lose. Those Wednesday players who remain could use their problems to develop a siege mentality and decide to really scrap for every point.

While it would be incredibly flippant to suggest we're in anything like as much of a crisis as they are, there are worrying parallels. A couple more seasons of rot coupled with struggles for the wider KP group, and it could be us in the near future.

We need to be showing as much solidarity with the Owls as we possibly can.  :nono:

The Sheffield Wednesday game is the first game of a season in which we have a very real chance of getting promoted again. We have a new manager who most people are feeling positive about. There will be a general sense of hope and optimism. In addition, the most disillusioned among our fanbase from last season will have departed and been replaced by newbies who’ve likely been on the waiting list for years, further amplifying the sense of optimism.

I’d say the chances of generating a mass protest against the club at such a time hover around zero. If we make a terrible start and languishing in the bottom half after 10 games, it might well happen. But not at the first game.

Not sure about the comment ‘ the most disillusioned amongst the fanbase will have departed’.

I am totally disillusioned as are my friends but we will be there to support the team but not the owner and his ‘yes team’.

It won’t take much to rile the vociferous minority.

Yeah fair enough. I agree that a poor start will turn things toxic fairly quickly. I just think the change of manager will push that back a bit further - if RVN was still in charge and we lost the first game, there would be open revolt.

re ; tickets not being sold for the away end... Sheffield are usually a well followed club and it's a relatively short trip. How many are they likely to bring?

Away tickets are on sale for them now - assume they'll sell out the 3200 allocation they've been given

Hopefully spend 90 singing for the owners removal too

Plenty of fans on here commiserating with Wednesdays predicament, whilst painfully ignorant to the fact that we’re standing on the edge of the same cliff.

Painfully ignorant, or not bothered enough to try to prevent us becoming the next Sheff Weds.

Given this thread topic (the fixture), and both clubs plights, any proactive fan base would be midway through the protest organisation for this game. Not here though- too many fan groups needing to protect their STs

this is simply not true and nothing short of fearmongering. At the very worst case scenario we have sellable asserts that can pay some debt. Which incidentally we don’t have because our owner paid that off by turning it into equity. Might we be be in the championship a few years  if we do that? Yes. But we are not in danger of failing to pay our staff or players.

Not right now no

But let’s not pretend it’s beyond the realms of possibility given the state of decline over the last 5 years.

People who predicted our plight now 4-5 years ago were poo pooed too, and derided.

That's disgusting. I mean a bit of pooh-poohing every so often is fair enough, but that is just taking things too far.

Depends if the fans are going to be happy giving money to the club still. This owner seems to be happy destroying the place. They may not want to give him anything.

Money wouldn't be going to Wednesday though surely.

Think we'll sell plenty and we are planning a significant protest aswell. Its mainly home tickets and any merch/kits that fans are boycotting.

You'll need to give us the words to your anti-Chansiri songs so that we can join in from our end :chant:

Anti Thai songs *

I know what you mean, but I also know some people take it another way, but you probably mean Anti Bad Thai football owner songs rather than what you have said.

the ‘ state of decline’ over the past 5 years  is due to the fact we over spent to stay in the champions league and stopped reaching it. . We therefore didn’t have that income coming in to cover the wages we decided to start splashing out on. We then spent wages to stay in the prem which we obviously failed to do. If there’s one thing about PSR regulations, it means we have no option but to fall in line with our spending to match  our income over a 3 year period.

Sheffield Wednesdays problem is very different. They have absolutely no money to spend., they don’t have a tier 1 youth system to generate good quality first team squad players and they don’t have  rather large first team sponsors that pop up out of nowhere. They also are facing the very real possibility of starting the championship season with a league two standard first team.

going forward, our major issue is going to be that our owner has  Pumped over 400m of his own money into the club to wipe out debt.. he’s invested heavily into the training ground and this is all money he will want back if he decides to sell. And that’s an obscene amount of money to expect a potential owner to fork out for a yo-yo team with a ground capacity of 32k. So our main issue is that we will possibly stay that yo-yo team or may even become a mediocre championship team. As awful as that will feel, in the context of surviving as a football club,  we will survive.

As a genuine football fan it makes me angry to see this happening to you, so I can’t even imagine how you guys must feel. It seems to me that your owner is absolutely gagging for the season to start as gate money is possibly the only income he can rely on…
