Vardy knocked a championship side out of the FA cup whilst playing for a non league side. Has Kone achieved something of that calibre in his career so far? Also considering we are signing Kone for right now could we afford him having a season like Vardy in 12/13? Will we have as much patience for a player getting to grips with a higher level as we did back then? As we all know Vardy was very close to not making it work here in those early years.

To me Kone looks very rough, he looks like he struggles to keep control of the ball and we already have a striker like that in Daka. Perhaps he does have raw talent which allows him to perform to a good level in League 1 with little experience but will that translate well to a higher level where the players have both raw talent and experience? He seems to thrive off of loose balls and mistakes/sloppy defending from the opposition, which he will benefit much less from at championship level.

He is also quite slow whereas both Vardy and Antonio were rapid which made them harder to deal with for defenders at any level. Kone's lack of pace is likely to hinder him from making the jump up.

I appreciate that. But you have to consider the background, and the fact that he hasn’t had a proper academy upbringing. What impresses me, is the fact he’s had a season like he’s just had, at his first attempt, amongst many players who’s been at it for years. I think he’s got the mentality to push on to the next level. You don’t always need blistering pace, Daka is probably the fastest player on this league, and yet he’s an abomination… Kone strikes me as someone who will scrap to earn his place, and he is clearly coachable!

You could easily be the correct one out of the two of us. Haaland scores a lot just from being in the right place at the right time so Kone could do the same.

Just my two cents on the matter from watching a few clips on him.

patience?!?! sorry but I remember fans wanting him gone, calling Vardy black and blue after the boro home game(the one where it snowed badly but was still played cos it was on Sky, 2013)

course Kone is raw, but this is the market we should be looking at, the raw diamonds we can sell on later down the line for a (hopeful) profit, as @Ric Flair said he seems very much like Ivan Toney when he was coming through

I watched this last week and thought his touch was half decent and he looked quick. I'll re-watch again unless i'm very much mistaken. Reminded me of early years Ivan Toney a hell of a lot.

For reference here's Toney at Peterborough. To be fair he scored a lot from sloppy defending from the opposition as well.

For me the one clear difference between him and Kone is the quality of finishing. Most of the finishes from Toney were incredible whereas I was only particularly impressed by one of Kone's goals.

also tbf to Toney in his time at Posh, he was playing in a better team compared to Wycombe and Kone imo

Toney was also 2 years older than Kone and had been playing actual league football for 5+ years

You can not compare the progress of Kelman and Kone, last season was Kone’s first in pro football and he is 21, and he scored nearly 20 goals, it’s unheard of. Kelman has been in pro football for a long while, has never scored over 10 in league one and two in that time and when he was Kone’s age(with far more experience) he scored 4 in 14 for Wigan and 7 in 43 for Leyton Orient in L2 I believe

I meant patience from the club and manager for a sub par championship season will have reduced rather than patience from the fans. We're no longer a club that looks at players qualities and application past their struggles on the pitch in the same way that Pearson and Walsh did with Vardy back then. We saw how Fatawu and Mavididi were discarded at the start of last season despite their previous campaign for example.

Also when Vardy signed we weren't favourites to go up, now we are. The expectations from the club for Kone would be that we're signing a player who will be one of the best strikers in the league next season, there's not as much room for an adjustment season.

nah come on, we had Cooper in charge, for one he said Fatawu wasnt ready, even tho it was clear as day he was, and when Mav played he played better than who played ahead of him

also we arent favourites to go up this season, in fact everyone seems to be writing us off

think most would rather us go for someone like Kone, rather than spunk £3/4mil on someone like Bamford who frankly has stunk up leeds for the last 4 odd years

To be fair @honeybradger raises some potential valid points. I think he'd still be a value punt at £5m but I also think theres possibly even better value un Scandinavia which Cifuentes knows like the back of his hand.

I remember writing Vardy off in his first season with us. Then again in the Prem a couple of years later lol

Can definitely see the appeal of Kone from what I've read. Agree we'd need to give him plenty of time and allow him to make mistakes while finding his feet. I suspect due to his age and lack of pre-season he'd start off as a sub.

tbf theres alot of talent in that region, but i dont think the club is currently smart enough to act upon it,

they need too cos frankly there are so incredible talents there

Feels like we may have to take a few puts at CF, Daka and Ayew out of contract next summer.

Sell Daka, bring in this kid and another and blood Evans.

Kone’s the right sort of striker signing for us at this very moment.

A development striker at a price and in a league / situation that you can essentially take a calculated risk on.

Fast forward 12 months and a possible promotion and we will then be looking at striker options again no doubt… but this time within a much higher price bracket and a much wider scouting net.

We've dabbled in the Scandinavian market , Wilf, Amartey , VK and Mads so we do know it exists

Those leagues seasons run March to November don’t they - I can imagine that’s a significant obstacle.

Seems the way, but at £5m, that’s £1m a year on PSR, surely it’s a no brainer if we are seriously wanting him.

Well, 40k a week would be an extra 2m a year but we should still be able to manage that.  We just got Vardy off the books.. 100k a week is 5.2m a year saved…
