Cliff is obviously a perfectly nice chap, from what I've seen, and entitled to his view. It's usually wrong, but he's entitled to it anyway.

However, in my experience a vote of confidence from his supporter's club is the death knell for an era. Until January 1991 there was a growing rift on the board between the Shipman faction and certain members, like Martin George and John Elsom, who wanted the club to show more ambition. Now, you could argue that this ambition got us into a lot of trouble under Elsom a decade later, but back in 1991 it was the difference between a future with David Pleat in charge and one with the likes of Brian Little and Martin O'Neill as manager, and many years of top flight success.

There were regular protests outside the ground. We were shipping goals at an alarming rate, in freefall towards the third tier. I remember Shipman, to his credit, came out to speak to the baying mob on at least one occasion. He was well-meaning but deluded. He argued that we'd tried to sign Alan Butcher (he meant Terry) and that was about as much as he had to say in his defence. It was a hostile atmosphere week-in week-out, with attendances dipping well below 10,000 on a regular basis, a deteriorating stadium and almost universal disdain for Shipman, Pleat and co. Bricks were thrown through windows, there were banners aplenty (including one from a plane calling for Shipman and Pleat to go... Only for the latter to miss it because he wasn't even attending the game!). I'm sure many of you remember it all well. It was a vital, pivotal moment in our history. Something either changed or we'd go the way of some of the other clubs we were competing with back then (many of which were above us in the table), like Bristol Rovers, Notts County, Port Vale, Plymouth, Oldham and Oxford. There was no guarantee that our future would be any brighter than theirs.

Anyway, I say 'almost universal disdain' because at this juncture Cliff started cropping up in the Mercury or on the radio, or wherever anyone would have him, telling us that everything would be fine. Shipman was doing his best. Pleat was doing his best. Stop complaining. Get behind the boys. Nobody could have been more out of touch and at times it felt like he was doing Shipman's bidding.

At last, under the sheer weight of popular demand, Pleat and Shipman were swept aside. We stayed in the second tier and then enjoyed arguably the best period in our history up to that point. I honestly thought that was the end of Cliff as a 'voice of the fans'. I didn't see how someone could have been so wrong on so many occasions, about such crucial issues, and yet still pipe up.

But he did, and if you fast-forward thirty years (past the bit where he thought Big Nige was doing untold damage to the club!) to this, you can see him still peddling the same dreary line. If he picks a side, it's probably not only the wrong one, but actually essential that you as a fan do the precise opposite of whatever he proposes!

It’s taking the word ‘supporter’ in the most literal of senses: we are the Supporters Club, therefore we must support the Club no matter what.

No room for nuance or critical reasoning at all.

Does the LCFC Supporters Club hold any significant weight?

As far as I can tell they're only an alternate coach provider with a controversial family attached.

Basically, gives a **** what these morons are saying.

Ai -  what should Leicester City supporters be doing while the club is failing and the club won't communicate?

Leicester City supporters should focus on organized, constructive engagement and positive action while the club is underperforming and communication is lacking. This could involve joining or supporting fan groups like the Foxes Trust, participating in initiatives like "Project Reset", and holding the club accountable through peaceful protests and advocacy. Supporters can also focus on creating a positive atmosphere at matches and within the community, while also holding the club to account for its actions.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Engage with Fan Groups:
  • Join and Support existing groups:
The Foxes Trust is a prominent organization for Leicester City fans. Engaging with them can provide a platform for voicing concerns and collectively working towards solutions.
  • Participate in surveys and feedback sessions:
Fan groups often conduct surveys and organize meetings to gather feedback from supporters. Actively participating in these can help ensure your voice is heard.

2. Organize and Participate in Peaceful Protests:
  • Project Reset is an example of a fan-led initiative aimed at holding the club's football leadership accountable.
  • Focus on constructive engagement:
Protests should be peaceful and focused on positive change. This could involve banners, chants, and other forms of expression that convey concerns without disrupting the game or causing harm.

3. Focus on Positive Action:
  • Create a positive matchday atmosphere:
Supporters can work to create a welcoming and supportive environment at home games.

  • The club's community initiatives are a positive force. Supporting these efforts can demonstrate a commitment to the club and the wider community.

  • Hold the club accountable:
Fans can and should hold the club accountable for its actions and decisions. This can be done through public statements, social media campaigns, and by engaging with the club directly.

4. Communicate Directly with the Club:
  • Utilize official communication channels:
Fans can use the club's official website, social media, and other communication channels to express their concerns and ask questions.

  • Attend fan engagement events:
The club has committed to holding fan engagement events. Attending these events and asking questions can help facilitate communication.

5. Be Patient and Persistent:
  • Change takes time:
It's important to remember that change within a football club can take time. Supporters should be patient and persistent in their efforts.

  • Don't give up hope:
Even when faced with challenges, supporters should maintain a positive outlook and continue to work towards a better future for the club.

Btw, 90 minutes event is on 9th September and the topic is atmosphere - which you can say this falls into.

True some of these have been dismally attended please register and turn up tell them specifically what you want don’t leave it to groups with agendas let’s hear the voice of the supporters. Bring new ideas that you believe people want. I personally want a greater focus on football and not social causes.

I genuinely don't know how it's possible to get it wrong as often as he does. Like even based on pure instinct and lucky guess you surely occasionally get it right.

He actually does need to be kept around - he could guide us to all sorts of success just by simply proposing the wrong thing at every turn. If we keep opposing it can you imagine how good things will get?

On the face of it, whilst obviously released with good intentions... this seems to have been a bit of an own goal for the Supporter's Club lol

I don't think it was. It was patronising and tone deaf.

If the players play like they care, give 100% and play as a team then the fans will have there back.

Granted Faes should never have been booed so he has every right to give some back.

Fans also booed them off at HT which I guess is a bit shit.

Odd situation the blame should be entirely on the board imo not the players.

We do support the club. It's the players who don't and they're the ones attracting the criticism and general disgruntlement.

I agree we all should be supportive where it's right to do so, but we should also reserve the right to be critical, angry and frustrated when we see our club constantly being failed by the owner and the board.

Also, you can't say "no matter what". Otherwise people like Ginetta hold an undeserved influence by the hierarchy because as long as those people feel reassured by what the LCSC spout, they won't listen to the rest of us.

People who wrote this statement are the same sort of people as the club slips into severe financial difficulties and a spiral that takes us years to go out of will also come out and say “we didn’t see it coming, it’s horrendous bad luck”. No luck involved in it.

They have no clue and offer no value.

Again, I don't think it was intended that way.

I'm sorry to use sweeping generalisations but have you met anyone who still supports KP, Rudkin etc & thinks those who are showing discontent are ungrateful? Those people are simple. The tone of the statement matches the characteristics of the KPFC brigade. Simple.
