There back, but always feel September internationals are too soon. Leagues only just returned and yet players got separate for international duties. Plus transfer window just closed so some players have got to wait till after international break to meet their new team mates.

Tbh cant moan too much got tickets for England v Andorra at Villa Park, should be easy victory. Followed by a very tough test in an always hostile Serbia.

Looking at squad selection some meh... Henderson again 🙄, Watkins... no goal so far this season, Rashford spent months injured, Lewis Skelly was awful last time.

Players missing Trent... should be picked, Grealish maybe considering he started well for Everton. Shame for Delap as if he wasn't injured i think would have got his first call up.

Far too many utterly pointless international games.

As you say - way too early in the season for this borefest. It just kills any excitement and momentum.

Just as fans are getting into the season and want to see their new signings after the deadline day they've got to wait until this nonsense is over.

Agree it's too early but these are world cup qualifiers. So not as pointless as friendlies this early for instance.

I remember many years ago, there used to be a random friendly in August. Players used to moan about that, it was always be midweek on a Wednesday night. Players on that occasion would need to request to be excused from their club for about three days of that week. I think Michael Owen once said, they'd report to the England camp late Sunday night and have just have two training sessions on the Monday and Tuesday and brief one on Wednesday morning. By Thursday they needed to be back at the clubs.

Yeah, but the sheer amount of dogshit international games has absolutely decimated any sense of enthusiasm for the national teams matches outside of major tournaments.

Watching international games SHOULD be an occasion to look forward to, instead we're guaranteed to be served up 90 minutes of players jogging around half-arsing it in some of the most dull football spectacles you're likely to see.

True for us (England ) but think Wales have a friendly v Canada for example.

You want my hot take?

Internationals should be clustered to two large windows - 3/4 games per camp. Qualifying would be watched by more if you actually let a narrative develop.

That would be interesting idea. Maybe two week international break with four games.

Perhaps in February and November. With March being for Nations League.

I think they're doing this from next year - replacing the September break with a two week one in October.

It's got to beat this. This international break is a joke - every single year it bugs everyone to have it around 3/4 games into the season. At least wait for about 7/8.

As a side note, wouldn't be a jot surprised if England lose in Serbia.

The only England games worth watching are away at moody places like Serbia and Greece.

There’s no jeopardy in qualifying anymore. Growing up there was those vital qualifiers against Italy, then Croatia and Russia years later.

How do you suggest qualifying for international tournaments though where (most) games arent pointless?

Not really fair to have a closed shop od 6/8 teams who qualify automatically and therefore don't really have to play because they're that much better than most. Also can't really have a tiered system like the nations league where some top nations miss out on the euros/WC but countries like Albania and Finland do. Don't disagree England Vs San Marino is never particularly exciting but there's not really a way around it.

Maybe preliminary round prior for the weaker nations leading up to the main qualifying.

We can add Loftus-Cheek to the ever-increasing list of bizarre call-ups

Seems to have done well in Milan. Been 6 years since he's had a call-up. Take him over Henderson.

Still...Tomori can't get in the squad.

Kane is not missing the chance to play against Andorra is he? Tried to think who might be 'rested' for the more difficult Serbia game but other than Rice I probably couldn't tell you the strongest team from that squad.

Europe and South America are the only two qualification process which doesn't have multiple levels where teams enter at differing points.

Couldn't agree more, there is a break every 3 weeks until December

He did okay first season. Injured for most of last season. He can't stay fit!

Good shout with Tomori.

They should scrap the Euros, Nations league(pointless competition) Afcon and just have a world cup every 4 years.

The Euros are fine!
