Can I pre-empt a biblically good GK performance? Danny Ward, 30th September 2025.

Considering he's not in their EFL squad this season due to long term injury, this would be remarkable.

Agree with the Schmiechel votes - a huge factor in league title win and FA Cup win.

I didn't see the game, but I remember the day well and the accolades Gordon Banks got from press and teammates for holding off relentless LIverpool shots in Leicester 1-0 win in FA Cup semi-final in 1963.

We've had some great keepers over the years so it is hard to pick and  some are too easily forgotten, just the O'Neill era  for instance, Keller was outstanding for us and then we got Flowers and an able deputy in Arphexad.

Just cant decide on the best GK performance but found a couple videos.

Perhaps its simply because I went to Villa park with my brother and a load of Villa mates back in 2007 in the cup game but I seem to remember it was one way traffic and the late great Marton Fulop playing a blinder, (not the only time we've been second best at Villa park and rather satisfyingly won against the run of play).

Fryatt got a runaway goal, may have been our only proper chance all game.

Might not be the greatest goalkeeping performance, but given the company I was with, one of the most satisfying.

Yes the  Banks game is legendary. Another is a young Peter Shilton at Spurs in December 1967. Foiled Greaves and Co and Alan Tewley scored the winner for us.

Ian Walker was good for us but never great (unless you count doing a number on that fan when we lost)

He deserves a mention for consistency. He was very able without being spectacular.

Schmeichel away at Sevilla deserves a mention. The tie should’ve been over in the first leg.

He won that

He was such a pivotal part of that win. He saved two penalties.

Hermansen away at Arsenal last season.

Conceded 4 but should been double that.

I was there that day. It was such a great game of football.

We lost, of course, but Justin was imperious and Mads played out his skin.

The away end was fabulous but not because of the result. The performance was, team wise, excellent. We took the game to the champions elect.

If we spent the season playing like that we would have been safe.

best save (not necessarily perfromance) was Ramsdale's save for Maddison's free kick

Disagree with this. His positioning was all wrong, takes a step over to the correct side in his set position he probably catches it.

if my auntie had wheels she would be a bike? what's your point? still an amazing save

Fa cup final and Sevilla in the champions league. The obvious ones. Great keeper performance and massive reward.

Gavin Ward v Tranmere in the first league of the playoff semi finals - if that’s on YouTube, get to watching. What a performance. We should’ve been 3/4 down before the second leg. We won the second leg 2-1

Honestly dont think it is, wasn't exactly near any corner more straight down the middle. Takes a step to his left he catches it. Any competent keeper as above probably catches it.

The second save from Jonny Evans though 🤝

Pegguy Arphexad away to Chelsea, made save after save, after the game Ken Bates gave him a bottle of champagne, never knew how to take that, patronising or sporting? Nowadays they just have lunch with our best players after they've phoned in sick (cough) "Chilwell".
