Really embarrassing for Manchester United to come back knocking on deadline day. Though I'm sure they tapped him up before.. leaving it this late when they know our situation regarding needing to shift players out before bring some in, is quite frankly astonishing. They made the decision really easy because we'd lined up some of those wage dossers Skipp, Mavididi, Hamza.. .

If we needed to sell we would have. So thank you to Manchester Uniteds incompetence. A more competent club signs him up in July for £10m.

He'll be at Real Madrid within 3 years

Agree, could be a Bellingham at brum situation for us next Summer, let's not retire the 25 shirt though

I did think they would have just lined up some sort of either player + cash or cash + loan back deal.

Must have known we'd have been desperate to keep him for this season.

Crazy how the likes of Page, Braybrooke, Alves and Joseph are already valuable first team players considering this is all their breakthrough season.

There’s something about the meeting with Khun Top, McCarron, Martin and Rudkin where Top decided to decline the offer that I find fascinating. I imagine them all sitting at a big board table, Rudkin’s got his laptop open, Tops pacing at the back, James is sat there grinning and taking notes while Martin draws where Page fits into the team at a flipchart. Then Top says “enough, he stays and we promote” they all hug and backslap and Rudkin hits Send on an email back to Man Utd. It’s beautiful.

Martin "It was a beautiful meeting, I love it. It energy was there in the room"

Top "we promote"

Rudkin dribbling on his laptop.

McCarron with his head in his hands, but knowing he's done a good job.

Bellingham is a blues fan through and through. He clearly loves that club. I think that’s part of the reason they retired the shirt.

Page is a United fan. It’d be weird retiring a shirt number for an 18 year old United fan, even if he does go all the way.

How is it embarrassing?

They were chancing it that we'd be desperate for a cash injection to get something moving elsewhere / bring someone in. They waved a bit of bait to see if we'd bite. It's deadline day and we'd already had a deal for Faes fall through. There was every chance we were looking for a bit of money quickly.

They're very obviously playing the long game making sure they stay in his consciousness and that people know they're interested.

You can't possibly think they were desperate to sign him in this window and that he was central to their plans this year and now they've missed out?

They're just probing.

A direct consequence of the big clear out, having little money to spend, their skills being more honed and taking their respective chances. It's very pleasing that the hype so far has been justified. We could do with a bit of feelgood factor.

Small sample size so far (and some data quality issues e.g goals percentile).

99th percentile for PAdj Tackles, you'll never sing that

Let’s not forget about 2 weeks ago Brussel told him his defensive side of the game was no where good enough and that’s why Skipp was starting in front of him.

We are so lucky Skipp got sent off it’s unbelievable but suppose you need a bit of luck with these clowns in charge.

Agreed, although the sending off possibly cost us 3 points on the day.

Because they could have picked him up for a lot less earlier in the window. Was unnecessary to pay a premium on deadline day. We've played hardball for Souttar for example, they've not come in with a small wad of cash trying to get a deal.

If they've tapped him up which they probably had a long time ago, it's very easy to agree a suitable fee over a long summer. A club their size and with their deep pockets should have done this piss easy.

Think the word has clearly been put round the whole of Europe that we are fair game to cherry pick this summer.

This was not the kind of signing you make on transfer deadline day. It really does suggest Man United are still the same mess they were for years before Ineos. They've had a poor window.

If Skipp hadn't made that challenge he'd probably still be here. It was a proper sliding doors moment.

Totally agree with this. I’ve gone from thinking what a f***ing twat at the time, to what a f***ing genius level tackle that’s turned out to be!

I think that's mostly our doing though to be fair. The whole club has a price and that's just the by-product of failing PSR.

Yep, they're worlds apart from Man City who got Monga for a good price before he had any sort of chance to get integrated into our plans for this season.

Insane that it took something like that for the club to see his lack of worth but yeah. I think Page's performances whilst he's been suspended have also shown the club that Skipp is simply a worse player and we're better off without him.

Absolute rolls royce. Mature beyond his years. England starter in 2030 world cup

Not unless there’s an U21 tournament that year !

England’s midfield in four years is going to be very strong.  Maybe the 2032 euros he can be competing within the squad.

What premium? Again, it was opportunism. They thought we'd have our heads turned because we might have needed the money.

Look, I dislike United as much as anyone else but I'm pretty sure you're just inventing a narrative and trying to cram your evidence in.

They've embarrassed themselves a lot in the transfer market in the last 15 years but I'm not sure I see what they should be blushing about with Page?

The way he sends the opposition player pressing when receiving a ball by body feigning and receiving on the half turn, or letting the ball run gives me serious Maddison vibes.
